Motorola Selects XACCT Technologies Platform for Its Next Generation Wireless Data Service Infrastructure
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 5, 2001--XACCT Technologies, the leading provider of business infrastructure
software solutions for IP networks, today announced the expansion of its existing business relationship with Motorola (NYSE:MOT). Motorola's
Global Telecom Solutions Sector (GTSS) has signed a multi-year OEM agreement to license XACCTmobile(TM) platform for use in its
Aspira(TM) total communications solutions.
Motorola's Aspira total communications solutions will integrate XACCTmobile with multiple access technologies such as Universal Mobile
Telecommunications System (UMTS), General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) to an IP backbone
capable of seamlessly delivering a wide range of applications. This will allow service providers to merge UMTS, GPRS and CDMA service
information with IP data services resulting in quicker rollout of value-based wireless data services.
"XACCTmobile is an ideal match for Motorola's innovative IP-based architecture," said Eric Gries, president and CEO of XACCT. "The
combined solution offers best-of-breed technology as well as unparalleled flexibility to the carriers and enables them to deal with any type of
IP-based traffic running over any network type. Together with XACCT, Motorola offers end-to-end integrated solutions, from network edge to
the back office, that let carriers design and execute flexible pricing models for differentiated, value-added services and applications and bring
them to market quickly and cost effectively."
XACCTmobile is built upon XACCT's real-time "Network-to-Business" (N2B(TM)) platform, their market-leading business infrastructure
platform that is currently in deployment at more than 70 customers around the globe. This agreement enables Motorola to offer higher value
network solutions to its customers. In addition to an advanced mobile network infrastructure, mobile operators will have the ability to collect and
synthesize highly granular network usage data that can then be used to understand how their mobile network and services are being utilized. This
insight is key to developing high-margin value-based services as well as shortening time to revenue for new services and maximizing the average
revenue per user (ARPU).
"Motorola and XACCT are taking a customer-centric approach to offering mobile data services by focusing on offering a coherent wireless
infrastructure with the scalability and capabilities needed for mobile data services and insulating customers from different transport technologies,"
said Paul Hughes, a research director with the Yankee Group. "These two companies are demonstrating strong leadership in their market
segments and clearly understand what is needed to offer customers value-based mobile data services."
"XACCT's platform helps bring profitability to mobile data services," said Bruce Stone, senior vice president and general manager of
Motorola's OSS Group. "As our customers gain a better understanding of how their network is being used, they can turn that knowledge into
enhanced revenue and profit. This solution also provides seamless integration with operators' back-office tasks, such as traffic engineering, that
are vital to the continued success of their business."
