IntelliWhere Connects LBS Solutions with Attendees at Communications 2001 in Toronto and Internet World Sweden
URL(s): www.intelliwhere.com
HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Nov. 5, 2001 - IntelliWhere(tm), a division of Intergraph
Mapping and GIS Solutions, is demonstrating its IntelliWhere LocationServer
platform and is previewing a soon-to-be announced intelligent location
product for personal digital assistants (PDAs), November 6 and 7, at two key
industry venues - Communications 2001 in Toronto and Internet World Sweden.
IntelliWhere is a software and solutions infrastructure provider focused on
the wireless and location-based services (LBS) industries, and continues to
be an essential driver in this fast-growing market space. Telecommunications
and mobile computing professionals can experience first-hand these
IntelliWhere solutions at Stand 1415 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre
or Stand 2D 35 at the Sollentuna Exhibition Centre, Stockholm.
IntelliWhere LocationServer is a server-side platform for LBS and is
targeted at several markets, including telecommunications companies and
portal providers, who want to provide location services to their customers.
Because of its built-in standards-based architecture, IntelliWhere
LocationServer is intuitive to use and integrates easily with corporate
infrastructure systems. Once implemented, the platform accepts queries from
any application or device, anywhere, in XML (extensible markup language)
format. It then uses a powerful array of geospatial and data management
functions to process these queries and deliver location-based maps and text
results to the calling application/device in open XML and industry-standard
formats. This gives IntelliWhere LocationServer the flexibility to be
incorporated into external application workflows or to power applications
that deliver services via Internet browsers and a broad range of wireless
devices.
IntelliWhere LocationServer is ideal for telecommunications companies and
portal operators that want to provide their customers the capability to
deliver and receive intelligent information specific to a particular
location. For example, a waste management company may need to provide
tracking and routing for its truck fleets. By subscribing to a
telco-sponsored service, the company could communicate exact details of
pick-up points and routes on in-vehicle wireless-connected PDAs. The service
could also provide directions and traffic information, monitor the vehicles
at all times, and ensure that the prescribed routes were actually followed.
The subscribing company could gain the benefits of this capability, while
avoiding the high cost of investing in software and infrastructure.
Attendees at both events can also get an up-close technology preview of
IntelliWhere's new off-the-shelf PDA software product. Targeted at companies
with mobile workforces, the new solution is designed to enable rapid
transfer of large amounts of information, a key advantage for teams such as
field crews
IntelliWhere and its parent organization, Intergraph Mapping and GIS
Solutions, are actively involved in spearheading industry standards that are
important to the rapid adoption of LBS technology. IntelliWhere's
participation in the Open GIS Consortium's Open Location Services (OpenLS)
initiative reinforces their commitment to delivering LBS solutions that are
reliable and quality driven.
