TOP GUN™ FLIES ONTO INTERNET ENABLED WIRELESS PHONES
Redwood City and Cambridge, UK (December 20th, 2001) Today nGame, the #1 publisher of games for Internet enabled wireless phones in North America, announced the release of “Top Gun”, its multiplayer flight simulator for mobile internet enabled wireless phones based on Paramount Pictures’ film “Top Gun”. nGame also announced a co-marketing campaign for it’s “Top Gun” Wireless game with Titus Interactive and their Top Gun-Combat Zones product for the Sony PlayStation2 computer entertainment system.
Further, nGame has extended the term of its “Top Gun” license with Viacom Consumer Products until December 31st 2003 and is now developing “Top Gun” titles for next generation 3G wireless devices including Sun Microsystems Inc.’s J2ME™ (Java™ 2 Platform, Micro Edition).
“Top Gun” is available to play now with wireless web enabled phones only on
Sprint PCS in the U.S., and shortly on Bell Mobility in Canada through February 1st 2002. “Top Gun” will be available on other North American wireless operators networks from early February 2002 onwards.
“Top Gun” is faithful to its Hollywood counterpart and is the first appearance of the modern movie classic on wireless devices. The game is really fun to play, and is pushing wireless phone technology to the limits. We are delighted to be working with Viacom Consumer Products again on our second project together,” said Alex Green, Vice President Business Development, nGame Inc.
“nGame has done a terrific job of developing and marketing a fun and compelling “Top Gun” game in keeping with the theme of the movie,” said Pam Newton, Vice President Licensing and Marketing Viacom Consumer Products. “We are pleased to be working on another leading project for wireless with nGame.”
In “Top Gun” the wireless game, players are pitched against fellow students, instructors, and enemy MIGs in both practice battles or “real life” battles using cannons and missiles. Catering for both casual and more dedicated players, quick mode and career mode are available. In career mode, Pilots develop new skills, and are instructed by key characters from the movie which are incorporated into the game.
nGame is also participating in co-marketing activities with Titus, the master “Top Gun” interactive game licensee for PC’s and consoles. Titus will be advertising “Top Gun” wireless in their print, Internet and in-store marketing, whilst nGame is advertising “Top Gun-Combat Zones” in a range of their multiplayer wireless games and on their Internet site.
Sprint PCS users can also enter the “Top Gun-Combat Zones” sweepstakes in the Top Gun wireless game. Titus is providing prizes for the winners of the sweepstakes including a Sony PlayStation2 console computer entertainment system and copies of the “Top Gun” game. The sweepstakes can be entered by users who play the “Top Gun” game created by nGame on their wireless phones, or alternatively on nGame’s HTML website.
“As nGame demonstrated with our Rat Race™ wireless game based on the hit Paramount Pictures movie, a sweepstakes component significantly increases usage and therefore revenues for nGame, Viacom Consumer Products and the wireless operators. Titus’ advertising featuring the wireless game, will also encourage hundreds of thousands of additional users to play “Top Gun” on their wireless phones”, said Alex Green, Vice President of Business Development at nGame Inc.
"We're always excited by cross-promotion and cross-marketing opportunities such as this one, especially when both products complement each other so well and that customers benefit from it at the end as much as we do,” said Frederic OUALID, Vice President of Marketing at Titus Software Corp. Inc.
