AirTran Airways Launches ''PowerCart'' at Atlanta Hub

ORLANDO, Fla., Dec 20, 2001 -- AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc., (NYSE:AAI), today announced that the low-fare airline launched PowerCart, a wireless mobile cart that will increase efficiency for the check-in process and print boarding passes for passengers waiting in line at the ticket counter. PowerCart Systems Inc., a Markham, Ontario, Canada, manufacturer of battery powered mobile carts for wireless applications, will be used at the airline's hub in Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport. AirTran Airways is the second largest carrier at Hartsfield with 146 flights a day to 35 destinations.

"The addition of the innovative PowerCart to our check-in process makes the overall check-in process more streamlined for our customers especially during the busy holiday season," said Joe Leonard, AirTran Airways' chairman and chief executive officer. "This investment is just one more example of AirTran Airways' commitment to ensuring that our passengers' experience is the best in the industry," stated Leonard.

PowerCart products enable users to be mobile and still have all of the tools they need to perform their work. Customer Service agents at the ticket counter will be able to wheel the wireless cart along the ticket line and check-in passengers waiting in line who need a boarding pass but who do not have bags. The mobile cart will be able to print out a boarding pass for the passenger on the spot, creating a more efficient check-in process. These passengers can then go directly to the gate.

"PowerCart products allow our customers to change the way they interact with their customers," says the company's president, Andy Stein. "By making almost any technology battery powered and mobile, all activity takes place in the ideal location. This makes both the employee and consumer experience much better," said Stein.

AirTran Airways provides affordable air travel throughout the eastern United States. AirTran Airways is a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:AAI).

Unlike other airlines, AirTran Airways never requires a roundtrip purchase or Saturday night stay. The airline offers a Business Class any business can afford, all-assigned seating, a generous frequent flier program, and a corporate program called A2B.
