RIM to develop BlackBerry Wireless Handheld for Nextel's iDEN Network

WATERLOO, ON, Dec 20, 2001 -- Research In Motion Limited (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSE: RIM), a world leader in the mobile communications
market, today announced a multi-year agreement with Nextel Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: NXTL). RIM will develop a new BlackBerry Wireless Handheld(TM) which will operate on Nextel's iDEN network. Under the terms of the agreement, Nextel has provided a commitment to purchase BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds with associated
software and service. Further details of the agreement were not disclosed. Information regarding product/service specifications and availability will be announced at a later
date.
