AlterEgo Networks Introduces AlterEgo Designer 2.0
URL(s): AlterEgo Networks
REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--Feb. 6, 2001-- AlterEgo Networks, Inc., the
leading provider of enterprise software and services for enabling the
pervasive Internet, today announced the availability of AlterEgo Designer
2.0(TM), the latest version of the company's GUI-based, XML/XSL content
customization and adaptation tool. AlterEgo Designer 2.0 provides an
easy-to-use environment for enterprises to create style sheets that optimize
the navigation, layout and user environment for any type of wired or wireless
Internet access device, while providing further optimization of delivery based
on bandwidth connection rates and image rendering capabilities. Finished style
sheets provide the guidelines for core adaptive server products from AlterEgo,
including AlterEgo Content Adaptation Server(TM) and AlterEgo Mobile Web
Server(TM).
AlterEgo has architected this release with the enterprise in mind,
building unique tools and design optimization features that help businesses
quickly and easily address the challenges of pervasive Internet computing. The
flexibility of AlterEgo Designer 2.0 enables businesses to quickly build
interfaces optimized for multiple devices. As data requests are made by
employees, customers and business partners, appropriate style sheets published
within AlterEgo Content Adaptation Server and Mobile Web Server are retrieved
and applied, delivering the right content for the right device, every time.
The resulting environment is one of a single data source, but multiple
targets, minimizing IT maintenance efforts and increasing productivity.
One exclusive feature is the integration of design "wizards" that offer
businesses guidelines for adapting applications and content for constrained
environments. Leveraging the more than 20 years of microdesign and user
interface expertise of AlterEgo's resident Chief Interface Technologist,
Dr. Mike Mills, these design wizards accelerate the efforts of enterprises to
build a rich and meaningful user experience on all types of devices while
taking into consideration such often overlooked elements as navigation, user
orientation, intuitive communication and the interrelation of users and their
devices. These design wizards are based on style guides meant to help
businesses enable pervasive Internet computing more quickly and do so more
effectively. AlterEgo Designer 2.0 includes the initial release of wizards.
AlterEgo will continue to incorporate additional wizards into AlterEgo
Designer and will make these available to customers as they are issued.
"If the world of pervasive Internet computing is to mature, businesses
must begin to examine the ways in which users interact and interrelate with
information across multiple target devices," said Mills. "The freedom to take
a single source of information and ensure that it reaches each and every user
in the best possible way is a powerful proposition for any business. AlterEgo
Designer 2.0 is the first step in delivering the capability to build this
adaptive enterprise, powerful enough to meet all the challenges of differing
devices and networks and intelligent enough to meet these challenges with
quality and accuracy."
Using AlterEgo Designer 2.0, corporate web managers build style sheets
through a simple drag-and-drop operation. AlterEgo Designer 2.0 provides a
complete environment to handle a range of tasks, from basic text and menu
selection and adaptation to more complex image editing, creation of ordered
lists and custom navigation. The workflow for a designer is as simple as
dragging content from their source browser view and dropping it into the
project workspace. AlterEgo Designer 2.0 employs an intuitive user interface
that graphically points the user in the right direction while creating the
style sheets. A software emulation window integrated into the interface
provides a real-time view of applications and content as it will appear
adapted for each target device (phone, PDA, pager, etc). This feature enables
editing and revision throughout the process, maximizing flexibility.
Key features of AlterEgo Designer 2.0 include: -- Create new or edit existing projects from wizard -- Transfer design elements across multiple device platforms with a simple drop-down menu, speeding design efforts -- Image management: adjust image size, change image type, adjust color, convert to grayscale, crop and preview images -- Real-time testing on target device simulator (HDML/WML phone and PDA) -- Frames support -- Free element support: adds content that does not exist within source content -- XML Editor for power users: allows user to manipulate rules directly
