Ztango Releases Carrier-Grade WAP Push Proxy Gateway
URL(s): Ztango
CANNES, France--Feb. 23, 2001-- Ztango, Inc., a leading provider
of managed wireless application solutions today announced the availability of
the Ztango WAP Push Proxy Gateway. The Push Proxy is a fully standards
compliant carrier-grade implementation of the WAP Forum's
(http://www.wapforum.org ) Push Proxy Gateway specification. The announcement
was made at 3GSM World Congress in Cannes where the push capability was also
demonstrated in a live environment.
The Push Proxy Gateway adds WAP Push functionality to the Ztango Wireless
Application Manager (WAM) platform. Initially, the gateway is available to
selected Ztango customers and partners for testing and application
integration. General availability is scheduled for April 2001.
Interoperability testing with leading handset manufacturers is ongoing to
ensure full compatibility with all WAP Push-capable handsets as they become
commercially available.
"As one of the first companies to develop WAP Push capabilities, we are
well-positioned to capitalize on the expanded functionality of the forthcoming
breed of push-capable handsets. We anticipate that during the first half of
2001 several push-capable models will become commercially available, and
Ztango will be prepared to deploy the infrastructure to support them," said
Kari Kailamaki, vice president of research and development at Ztango.
By extending push alert and notification capabilities to the WAP world,
WAP Push enables new opportunities for revenue-generating value added
services. "The deployment of packet data-capable network technologies such as
GPRS significantly improves the user experience of WAP, reducing both
connection setup times and service costs. WAP Push brings to WAP services a
significant component that has been one of the key success factors in the
explosion of SMS traffic. Further, alerts and notifications enabled by WAP
Push reduce the need to regularly visit sites to check for new information,
optimizing the WAP experience," continues Kailamaki.
As an example, WAP Email offerings are now even more appealing to users
through the incorporation of WAP Push as an alternative to SMS for
notification of arriving email. WAP Push allows better text formatting as
well as direct links into a WAP Email application.
Ztango projects that SMS will continue to play a crucial role in the
future of wireless applications.
WAP Push, EMS and MMS in 2G, 2.5G and 3G networks will use SMS as the
behind-the-scenes transfer mechanism for inbound message notification.
Ztango's long experience in SMS and its robust and field-proven SMS Gateway
provide an easy migration path into WAP Push and beyond.
Since 1996, Ztango's Finnish R&D subsidiary has focused on the creation
and global deployment of carrier-grade SMS and WAP gateway solutions to mobile
operators, service providers and major corporations where high availability
and extreme scalability are critical factors for success. Currently millions
of messages flow daily through Ztango gateways, with most of them flowing in
commercial end-user applications. Throughout the years, Ztango has focused on
adopting emerging technologies and making them accessible to application
developers as well as ensuring that maximum return on investment is realized
from existing infrastructure.
With over 100 active deployments worldwide, the Ztango SMS Gateway
connects applications with SMSCs while providing powerful service management
tools as well as support for various billing models. It is an essential tool
for operators and service providers that wish to connect their services to
heterogeneous messaging environments and to ensure a high quality of service.
