Yahoo! Brazil & Enterasys Networks Partner to Deliver World's First 'Ice Cream Cart' Mobile-Commerce Initiative

URL(s): Enterasys Networks

SAO PAULO, BRAZIL--March 6, 2001--Enterasys Networks(TM), a leader in secure, available and mobile enterprise communications solutions, today announced a visionary m-commerce partnership with Yahoo! Shopping Brazil to deliver Internet-enabled ice cream carts to sun seekers on beaches throughout Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The joint m-commerce initiative is an innovative demonstration of the powerful capabilities of the Internet, seamlessly and securely supported by the true mobility of Enterasys' wireless solutions.

Drawing inspiration from one of the key summer symbols of Brazil - the ice cream cart - Yahoo and Enterasys have created the world's first mobile mall, decorated in the famous purple and yellow colors of Yahoo! Shopping Brazil's logo. The carts contain a PC notebook connected via Enterasys RoamAbout(TM)wireless, enabling users to securely access Yahoo! Shopping, access e-mail, news or even send web-greeting cards. The unique carts will visit both Maresias beach in Sao Paulo and Geriba beach in Rio de Janeiro throughout the summer of 2001.

"This Yahoo Brazil and Enterasys innovation is fun, but more importantly, indicative of how m-commerce can reach the consumer at the point-of-sale and bring the power of Internet m-commerce to the real-world environment. If you're on a beach you might want to check your stocks, find a local hotel, or may have forgotten a birthday and need to send an urgent gift - what better than to have the Internet brought directly to you? Our RoamAbout truly allows Yahoo! Brazil to power the next states in Internet and m-commerce mobility," commented Henry Fiallo, president of Enterasys Networks.

Utilizing Enterasys' RoamAbout Wireless Outdoor solution enables Yahoo! Brazil to seamlessly gain web access to each ice cream cart. OMNI antennas have been implemented at key locations at each beach linking, via radio-frequency signals, to RoamAbout Access Cards placed within each laptop. Enterasys RoamAbout solution embraces the IEEE802.11 standard, ensuring 11Mbps speed and, in turn, delivering 128-bit encryption for secure access and Internet transactions.

Gustavo Siemsen, Marketing Manager at Yahoo! Brazil concluded, "Just as people don't have to leave the sand to buy ice cream, now they also can buy whatever they wish and have it shipped to their beach addresses."
