LAS VEGAS--Jan. 8, 2001--Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) and PacketVideo Corporation today announced that they will collaborate to bring full-motion video and audio content to mobile devices, including Internet-enabled wireless phones, smart phones, handheld devices, wireless personal digital assistants, and laptop computers. As part of this agreement, Motorola Ventures, the strategic venture capital arm of the global communications company, has made a multi-million dollar equity investment in privately held PacketVideo, based in San Diego, California.

The combined technologies will enable developers to design streaming media applications, including news clips, sports highlights, movie trailers and video e-mail for Java-enabled wireless devices. Motorola and PacketVideo intend to deliver these innovative capabilities based on the Java(TM) 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME(TM)) which will be supported in a future release of Motorola's multiple communications handset for iDEN(R) networks. Motorola will offer a preview of PacketVideo's capabilities using a Motorola data-enabled handset at the Consumer Electronics Show, in the Motorola booth, Gold Pavilion, Booth No. 15032.

"We are delighted to strategically align with PacketVideo to define, create and implement multimedia solutions that will enable consumers to view streaming video anytime, anywhere," said Warren Holtsberg, corporate vice president of Motorola Ventures. "Motorola's collaboration with PacketVideo represents our focus on next generation wireless applications that will enrich the experience of the user."

"We are pleased to be partnering with Motorola in an area so vital to the future of wireless communications," said James Carol, chief executive officer and co-founder of PacketVideo. "This agreement reinforces PacketVideo's commitment to deliver commercially available wireless video applications and services to consumers on a global scale."
