Wireless Data University Attendance Tops 650, Largest Ever, at March 19 Session

BOULDER CREEK, Calif, March 23, 2001--Wireless Data University, the comprehensive one-day Wireless Data/Wireless Internet tutorial that is presented twice-yearly by Andrew Seybold, Barney Dewey and Alan Reiter, drew its largest enrollment ever this week, attracting more than 650 people to its three instructional morning tracks and afternoon plenary session, it was announced today by Andrew M. Seybold, president of Andrew Seybold's Outlook and WDU co-founder.

The event, the only one of its kind, was held in Las Vegas on Monday, March 19, prior to the opening of the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA) Wireless 2001 Conference. The second 2001 session of Wireless Data University will take place on Monday, Sept. 10, prior to CTIA's Wireless IT, the second of the industry group's two major annual conferences (Sept. 11-13, San Diego).

"This extraordinary turnout suggests that even in the face of economical uncertainties, interest in wireless data and wireless Internet technologies, applications and opportunities continues on the rise and shows no signs of flagging," Seybold said.

"Much of the reason lies in the fact that increasing numbers of businesses now recognize wireless' ability to save time and money while boosting the productivity of people while they are away from the office. "The ever-growing inventory of solid wireless applications makes it an indispensable part of the corporate IT/communications infrastructure. With business confirming its merits, wireless is now poised for more extensive penetration of the consumer market, where even greater opportunities exist."

Each session of Wireless Data University features fully refreshed information on wireless technology, wireless Internet and wireless applications.

At the session just concluded, the formal morning tracks included "The Basics of Wireless Data Communications," in which Seybold explored the spectrum of devices and services available and what potential adopters of the technology need to know to use them effectively; "The Wireless Internet and Wireless E-Commerce," with Reiter examining its structure and usage and citing examples of companies with wireless Internet initiatives; and "Wireless Applications and Services," wherein Dewey explored the keys to successful applications, marketplace trends and size projections and the top wireless service providers' (carriers) technologies and strategies.

"People have begun to appreciate that the ubiquity and always-on capabilities of wireless technology give it an importance that is unprecedented," Seybold said, "not only from the point of view of business and consumer users, but also from that of vendors who perceive the virtually boundless opportunities in the market."
