SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., March 26, 2001-- Gravitate Inc.
(www.gravitate-usa.com), a fast-growing provider of technologies and applications for Location Precise(TM) wireless
Internet services, today announced that MTI has signed a Letter Of Intent to acquire a license for the Gravitate Platform
upon the successful in-market trial of location-enabling the top 10 MTI content applications.
MTI, based in Tokyo, is the world's leading mobile phone Internet content provider, supplying content to leading
Japanese carriers.
MTI has selected the Gravitate Platform as a leading software technology to enable its existing wireless applications
and explore the development and deployment of new Location Precise services.
The agreement calls for co-marketing support that will enhance the services offered by both companies and Gravitate
is granting MTI a license to allow the company to resell or provide access to the Gravitate Platform to its worldwide
customers, including original equipment manufacturers, infrastructure providers, carriers, network operators, and
content providers.
Gravitate and MTI will share in revenues derived as a result of applications using the Gravitate Platform.
"Gravitate is focusing on servicing markets where adoption rates and, most importantly, revenue opportunities are
significant," said John Trobough, chief executive officer of Gravitate.
"Working with MTI will significantly contribute to having Gravitate emerge as the Location Precise software platform
leader in Asia and ultimately other markets around the world. We strongly believe that the Gravitate and MTI
relationship will contribute to increasing revenue opportunities for both companies, and significantly enhance the product
offering of Japanese carriers."
The MTI applications provide Gravitate with an ideal testing ground for the advanced capabilities of its Location
Precise software platform. The Gravitate Platform has the unique ability to maintain in real-time the location of millions
of moving data points, as well as manage relevant relationships and queries between each of those data points.
Combining Gravitate capabilities with MTI proven applications will establish the joint offering as a clear leadership
showcase for Location Precise services.
"The Gravitate Platform allows MTI to significantly differentiate its wireless applications in a highly competitive
market by adding a crucial location-precise component to the user experience," said Izumi Hiroshi, chief technology
officer for MTI.
"MTI has a vast and highly qualified user base of more than 670,000 users and Gravitate provides the scaleable
architecture required to start experimenting with enhanced Location Precise services."
The software architecture of the Gravitate Platform is built on the open-architecture Enterprise Java Bean (EJB)
specification. This grants the Gravitate product a high degree of scalability to easily accommodate an ever-growing
number of transactions and concurrent users.
MTI, the pioneer of wireless content applications, was founded in August 1996 and maintains its headquarters in
Tokyo. The company's main business is providing voice and text content service for mobile phones featuring
WAP-based microbrowsers. For more information visit www.mti.co.jp or send e-mail to info@mti.com.jp.
