Verestar uses Telesat's Anik F1 satellite to serve South America

WASHINGTON, D.C., March 29, 2001 - Telesat today added another marquee name to the list of customers using its powerful new Anik F1 satellite. The world's most experienced satellite operator announced a contract with Verestar, Inc., a worldwide integrated communications solutions provider. Under the terms of the agreement, Verestar will use capacity on Telesat's Anik F1 to provide connectivity to the U.S. Internet backbone for customers in all regions of South America.

"Satellite technology has emerged as a crucial enabler of communications connectivity in today's global economy," said Dennis Billard, Telesat's vice president of business development. "Telesat is proud to add Verestar to the other internationally-renowned companies on our customer list. This contract demonstrates Telesat's place among the leading satellite capacity providers in the world."

The Anik F1 satellite is a 15-kilowatt HS 702 model spacecraft - the most powerful commercial satellite available today. The satellite is equipped with 84 communications channels, of which 48 operate on the Ku-band and 36 on the C-band. On February 19, 2001, Anik F1 began providing service to customers throughout North and South America.

"Telesat's Anik F1 satellite provides significant coverage for our customers requiring connectivity in or out of South America," said Brent Perrott, vice president of international voice and data for Verestar.

Telesat made the announcement at the Satellite 2001 trade show in Washington, DC, where the company is marketing its services across North and South America. Last year, the company established Telesat Communications Services, a U.S. service and sales division that offers domestic and international satellite transmission services to broadcasters, cable companies, telecommunications resellers and other businesses from coast to coast.
