Haggar Selects Voxware to Take the Slack out of Distribution Operations
PRINCETON, N.J., March 29, 2001--Voxware, Inc. (OTC: VOXW), a leading speech
recognition company providing natural language solutions for industrial applications, with a focus on Supply Chain Execution,
announced today that Haggar Clothing Co., a leading marketer of men's casual and dress apparel and women's sportswear,
has selected Voxware's VoiceLogistics(TM) high-speed unit picking solution for deployment in their Fort Worth, Texas
distribution operation.
As part of this agreement, valued at approximately $350,000 initially, Voxware will deliver enterprise software,
professional services, hardware, and ongoing maintenance for a VoiceLogistics solution at Haggar's 660,000 square foot
operation in Texas. Haggar selected Voxware in a competitive procurement over other alternative solutions, including other
speech-based systems. Voxware will provide Haggar with a high-speed unit picking solution for their distribution process that
will assist them in improving operating margins through better quality assurance and labor management.
"Voxware's VoiceLogistics solution has demonstrated it can streamline and improve our order picking operations
considerably," said David Roy, Executive Vice President of Operations at Haggar. "In addition to providing us with a
paperless picking environment, we anticipate substantial improvement in picking accuracy due to the real-time operator
feedback provided by the voice application," added Roy.
"Again we have exercised our leadership in implementing natural language speech recognition interfaces for mission critical
applications in the most challenging environments. Haggar is a case where human-machine interaction works better than
human-human interaction. Our ability to demonstrate that speech technology works in the high noise operating environment of
Haggar's distribution center was key to even being considered," said Dr. Bathsheba J. Malsheen, President and CEO of
Voxware. "We worked very closely with the users and management at Haggar, to put together a VoiceLogistics solution for
them that improved order accuracy while maintaining throughput, and allowed them to better manage work flow. This is a
terrific application of speech recognition where it not only delivers value, but also is central to the successful operation of the
business," added Malsheen.
The automated conveyor and sorting systems in the distribution center create a very challenging acoustic environment for
most speech applications. Voxware's patented noise-robust speech technology in their VoiceLogistics solution has performed
successfully in these environments and has provided a way for Haggar to use speech technology to improve their operations.
"We've used Voxware's VoiceLogistics solution in our operation and demonstrated that it will streamline what is already a
highly engineered picking operation," said Greg Jones, Director of Engineering at Haggar. "Having the real time work flow
visibility that this paperless picking system provides will be a great management tool to improve operating efficiencies."
As part of the contract, Voxware will integrate their web-based speech interface into Haggar's existing Manhattan
Associates Warehouse Management System. The project is scheduled to begin this month, and completion is expected by the
end of summer 2001.
VoiceLogistics is Voxware's wireless, web-based interactive speech interface solution for the supply chain that enhances
speed, accuracy and productivity of logistics and fulfillment operations. VoiceLogistics also seamlessly integrates with the
WMS and IT systems of virtually any distribution and logistics operation. The VoiceLogistics system includes the
VoiceLogistics wireless RF client, Voxware's patented noise-robust speech recognizer, designed specifically for high
performance in industrial environments, their VoiceXML browser, the VoiceLogistics server, the VoiceLogistics suite of
VoiceXML applications for logistics and fulfillment operations, and Voxware's professional services for installation, integration
and implementation.
