Indus selects iConverse to meet increasing mobile asset management market demand

Open standards and adaptive productivity technology key factors in iConverse selection; Indus to integrate iConverse technology for mobile asset management rollout to Global 2000

WALTHAM, Mass. and ATLANTA—April 16, 2002 — iConverse, a leading mobile application platform provider, and Indus International (NASDAQ: IINT), the leading global supplier of enterprise asset management (EAM) software and services, today announced they have entered a strategic licensing agreement to bridge Indus’ vast array of enterprise asset management applications to the mobile channel.

Under the terms of the agreement, Indus will integrate the award-winning iConverse Mobility Platform™ into its portfolio of EAM offerings to help Indus customers maximize the productivity of mobile asset management workers. Indus will also market, sell and service EAM solutions created with the iConverse Mobility Platform.

Indus’ new mobile offering will empower customers’ mobile workers to better manage assets and increase the rate at which they can service customers. Indus mobile application end-users will be able to access and interact with essential asset management applications while in the field, regardless of network availability, and communicate asset-intensive information back to the enterprise for faster and more efficient tracking and order fulfilling.

Indus meets increasing EAM demand by rolling out mobile applications Through its strategic partnership with iConverse, Indus meets an increasingly important market demand: highly functional mobile workforce applications. According to industry analysts, enterprises are in need of robust mobile business applications that streamline and extend essential business processes like enterprise resource planning, supply chain and asset management to the mobile channel. One of the factors hindering enterprise mobile application deployment to this point has been the lack of highly functional applications that can be accessed in any mode of mobile operation—connected, disconnected and intermittently connected.

“The real promise of ubiquitous computing lies in the ability of mobile workers to access fully functional enterprise applications at the point of business,” said Steve Drake, Program Manager with IDC's Mobile Infrastructure Software service. “Bridging the network gap to provide ubiquitous access for employee-facing applications like enterprise asset management, healthcare practice management and field force automation will dramatically increase the rate of productivity at which employees can perform and services can be rendered.”

The iConverse Mobility Platform enables the creation and deployment of enterprise mobile business applications that automatically adapt to a user’s continually changing environment. For example, mobile business applications created and deployed with iConverse can assess user needs including data availability, priority of data, network availability, connection speed, etc., and then dynamically retrieve that information through message queues, online access and on-client database retrievals. The resulting application experience is seamless and automatic, leading to a dramatic increase in workforce productivity.

iConverse’s open-standards base and integrated operation approach essential to choice After a rigorous selection process, Indus chose iConverse because of its superior technology. iConverse’s support of open-standards, ability to enable multiple modes of mobile operation as well as provide robust on-client mobile applications were considered the primary advantages of iConverse’s technology. Indus can easily integrate the platform with its existing application offerings and ensure customers full-featured application functionality for the effective management of enterprise assets.

“Many mobile infrastructure vendors offer disparate and proprietary point solutions that limit users’ application access while in the field,” said Bob Hofer, VP of Product Strategy for Indus. “iConverse’s open and complete approach to mobile deployment enables us to provide an integrated solution that covers all modes of mobile operation—connected, disconnected and intermittently connected—and seamlessly integrate mobile access as a core component of our offering.”

Additional factors influencing the selection are iConverse’s ability to:  Incorporate two-way wireless messaging and alerting through a global carrier network;

 Ensure a low cost of application and device maintenance for enterprise customers;

 Integrate Web Services protocols like SOAP, UDDI and WSDL; and, Support a multitude of languages for global deployment, including double-byte languages like Chinese, Korean and Japanese. “iConverse is extremely pleased to enter this strategic relationship with Indus, a leading player in the asset management software space with an impressive and long enterprise customer roster,” said Ron Matros, CEO and president of iConverse. “We see Indus’ selection of iConverse technology as a strong endorsement of the competitive edge we have over other vendors in the space and a good opportunity to expand our channel distribution in the enterprise marketplace.”

Indus products are designed to help companies yield a higher return from their assets and decrease their maintenance costs. Indus' three decades of experience, technology and best business practices help clients become more competitive and profitable while ensuring the safety of employees and surrounding communities.

Indus’ new mobile offerings will be available in Q3 of 2002.
