Clare Drives OLED Display Development for PDA Applications with Launch of Versatile Driver IC

BEVERLY, Mass.--April 16, 2002--Clare, Inc. (Nasdaq:CPCL), a global leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits for display and communications markets, announced today the availability of an organic light emitting diode (OLED) driver IC designed to specifically address the needs of the popular PDA market. The MXED203 OLED row driver is a row-multiplexed display driver that directly supports 144-row mode (QCIF) and up to 160-row OLED panel displays.

Designed by the company's Aliso Viejo, CA-based Micronix division, the MXED203 is a versatile row driver that can also be used in combination with Clare's column driver ICs, such as the MXED102, to provide coordinated precharge and synchronization for optimum dynamic response. The MXED203's low "on" switch resistance ensures uniform luminance at rapid row scan rates, and supports single and dual scan passive matrix PDA displays.

"With more than 20 years of expertise in analog and mixed-signal IC development, Clare Micronix IC Group's analog design team has already produced four generations of driver ICs for OLED and bistable displays. This year, we will see OLED technology make the jump from the lab to store shelves," said Bill Boldt, vice president of sales and marketing for Clare Micronix. "To help propel OLED's widespread adoption, we are rapidly expanding our line of standard and customized driver IC products to address the full complement of customers' needs. By providing solutions like the MXED203, we are allowing suppliers to reach the market quickly at a low cost."

Recognizing the coming vast demand for OLED and bistable driver and controller ICs, Clare has previously announced a world-class supply chain aimed at providing OEMs with the most reliable source available. The company has entered into manufacturing agreements with X-FAB Semiconductor Foundries, AG; Hynix Semiconductor, Inc.; Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE), Inc.; and Siliconware Precision Industries Ltd. to establish high volume capacity for its solutions.

Samples of the MXED203 in die form will be available late May 2002. Pricing starts at $4 for quantities of 1,000 to 9,999. For more information visit www.claremicronix.com.
