Comverse Announces Successful MMS Interoperability Certification With Sony Ericsson
URL(s): www.comverse.com
WOODBURY, NY, April 24, 2002 - Comverse, a unit of Comverse Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: CMVT), and the world's leading supplier of software and systems enabling network-based multimedia enhanced communications services, today announced the successful completion of interoperability certification between the Comverse MMSC (Multimedia Messaging Service Center) and the MMS-capable Sony Ericsson T68i handset.
The successful testing and certification reflects the strong commitment of Comverse and other leading industry players to interoperability. Comverse is conducting a broad program to ensure its interoperability with all major MMS terminal and MMS server vendors.
The Comverse MMSC is a fully standard, open platform with a modular architecture. Full interoperability assures that whenever a person sends an MMS message, the intended recipient can receive it - regardless of which service providers and handset client manufacturers may be involved. This universal delivery capability is believed to be essential to the acceleration of MMS adoption and usage. Faster adoption and usage rates are key to an accelerated increase in revenue for operators, and will likely stimulate content providers to offer attractive content and services over MMS.
"This interoperability announcement is the result of a great deal of hard work," said Zeev Bregman, Chief Executive Officer of Comverse. "We are happy about the successful completion of interoperability testing with Sony Ericsson to achieve this milestone. Comverse has been a leader in the efforts to set and implement the 3GPP and WAP Forum MMS specifications. We are looking forward to the new communications environment that will result from multimedia deployment."
Market research indicates there is strong consumer interest in MMS, which delivers image, audio and video messaging to multimedia-enabled terminals. In addition to person-to-person multimedia messaging, MMS will introduce a whole new dimension to a variety of mobile information and entertainment services. For example, in addition to receiving the final score of a soccer match, the MMS will enable the users to receive a short video clip showing the goals scored in the match.
