Aplix JBlend Adds Support for Symbian OS; New Functionality Provided with MIDP

SAN FRANCISCO--April 22, 2002--Aplix Corporation is pleased to announce that its industry-standard, embedded Java platform, JBlend, now supports Symbian OS for use in next generation mobile phones. Aplix will showcase its JBlend MIDP platform on the Nokia 9210i Communicator, a Symbian OS-equipped next-generation mobile phone, during the Symbian Developer Expo 2002 (London, U.K.) on the 23rd and 24th of April. The addition of the Symbian OS to JBlend's vast array of supported operating systems ensures that JBlend will strengthen its established reputation as a leader in the development of high performance, scalable and robust Java platforms.

JBlend has shipped on over five million mobile phone units in Japan and is quickly becoming the Java platform of choice for many of the leading mobile phone manufactures. JBlend delivers incredibly reliable and functional Java platforms across a wide range of memory restrained consumer electronic devices. Many Java implementations are limited to existing specifications and profiles like MIDP 1.0. JBlend not only adheres to these existing industry standard specifications but also currently supports vendor-specific Java extensions as well, including those from NTT DoCoMo, KDDI and J-Phone. Aplix is contributing towards the development of next generation specifications and profiles like MIDP 2.0, while at the same time enabling JBlend support for new vendor-specific extensions like those offered by Sprint PCS. By selecting JBlend, vendors will help future-proof their solutions so that they not only meet today's specifications, but will enable the support for the Industry specifications and extensions currently under development.
