Oberthur Card Systems introduces CosmopolIC(tm) lite, a multi-application, low-end, Java and Visa-certified smart card

UK, April 24 -- Oberthur Card Systems today announces the general availability of a new, low-end, Java and Visa-certified smart card. The card meets increasing market demand for low-cost multi-application projects, and more particularly that of US Visa member banks that participate in the Smart Visa program. This new range also appeals to other markets eager to embark on scalable, multi-application projects.

It complies with the most recent Visa specifications (both for the implementation of OpenPlatform and for Smart Visa Framework, a personal data storage application used by Visa in the US).

The card can be used:

* To pay for goods or services via a Visa-certified debit/credit application;

* To gain secure access to Internet services: recording of passwords or personal information, secure online purchasing, etc.;

* For other purposes, according to the card issuers' needs, thanks to the possibility they have of adding applications adapted to their markets (loyalty, logical access, authentication, etc.). Furthermore, its storage capacity enables issuers to incorporate MasterCard's debit/credit application, M-Chip Lite, and a loyalty application.

This card can also be supplied with a card reader and PC software for secure connections to services. It can additionally be integrated into security solutions from Oberthur such as Convenient Storage Application and AuthentIC Web Assistant.

Technical specifications

* 16 KB of user memory * JavaCard 2.1-certified * Open Platform 2.0.1-certified, supporting various security domains * VSDC - Visa Smart Debit Credit * Smart Visa Framework
