Vicinity Location Server Added to AT&T Wireless mMode(SM)

AT&T Wireless Customers Can Now Find ATMs, Fast Food Restaurants and Other Businesses on Their Mobile Phones With Just a Few Taps

SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 14, 2002 - Vicinity Corporation (Nasdaq: VCNT), a leading provider of Web, wireless and speech-based Enterprise Location Services (ELS), today announced its Vicinity Location Server(SM) (VLS) has been added to the mMode(SM) service recently launched by AT&T Wireless. Customers in all AT&T Wireless GSM/GPRS markets can now use their wireless phone and VLS technology to find the nearest ATM, fast food establishment or other retailer.

VLS technology helps companies with multiple physical locations effectively utilize their location information across the enterprise. The service meets the needs of large corporations by enhancing the end-user customer experience through easy-to-use Web, wireless or speech-based location services. Specifically for AT&T Wireless, Vicinity developed a WML (wireless markup language) version of the service in three modules -- Brand Finder, a directory of major brand name retailers, fast food finder, and ATM finder -- that are now available for use by mMode customers.

mMode provides dozens of unique services that enable AT&T Wireless customers to use their wireless phones for much more than placing phone calls. mMode gives AT&T Wireless customers access to the information and people they care about most, with a few clicks of their keypads. mMode is available now in the markets where AT&T Wireless has upgraded to its GSM/GPRS network: Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, Seattle, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Portland, Kansas City, Miami/Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Tampa/St. Petersburg, West Palm Beach and San Diego. The company will add more cities throughout the year.

"We're very pleased to add Vicinity Location Server technology to our broadening portfolio of mMode destinations, enabling our customers to easily locate and receive driving directions to the nearest ATM, hardware store or fast-food restaurant," said Andy Willett, Vice President of Consumer Data Offers at AT&T Wireless. "Thanks to leading companies like Vicinity, our customers can access compelling, new information services while on-the-go."

"Vicinity provides a robust, stand-alone WML solution, and AT&T Wireless is the first carrier to deploy this service," said Teri Dalhbeck, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at Vicinity. "We're excited to have mMode customers use our VLS technology to simplify their busy lives."
