Xybernaut and IBM Supply Wearable Computer Solutions for Airline Industry

Xybernaut Mobile Assistant V Computers Continue to Gain Momentum in "Queue-Busting" Applications and Related Customer Services

FAIRFAX, Va., May 16, 2002 - Xybernaut Corporation (NASDAQ:XYBR) today announced that Xybernaut(R) wearable computers and software solutions for "queue-busting" (reducing long lines), registration, ticketing and other customer services have been developed jointly with IBM (NYSE:IBM) for airline carrier customers -- including the previously announced Mobile Kiosk Program.

Xybernaut solutions are initially being integrated as part of a Mobile Kiosk Program that represents one of the first jointly developed solutions resulting from a reseller agreement completed by IBM and Xybernaut last year.

As part of the program, airline customer service representatives utilize Xybernuat Mobile Assistant(R) V (MA V) wearable computers as the basis for a wireless/mobile check-in and ticketing system to augment existing registration desks.

The solution consists of a Xybernaut MA V wearable computing system, manufactured for Xybernaut by IBM, an integrated light-weight flat panel display (FPD) with touch screen capabilities and support for body-worn credit card readers and printers. The system provides a ticketing agent with the same functionality as if he or she was behind one of the fixed location counter terminals.

Given the wearable nature of this solution, additional agents can be sent to handle and support extensive crowds when, for example, flights are rescheduled or delayed.

Xybernaut has been developing queue-busting applications in conjunction with airlines, hotels, retail stores and fast-food restaurants for several years. "We believe that queue-busting is one of the `killer applications' for wearable computing, much the same as word processing, spreadsheets and databases were the killer applications for the introduction and success of the PC," stated Edward G. Newman, chairman president and CEO for Xybernaut.

"We are encouraged to see our wearable/wireless platform continue to gain momentum within the airline industry, a key vertical industry sector for Xybernaut. Today, large enterprises are looking for ways to leverage existing investments in computing and communications. Measurable returns on these investments are becoming a critical benchmark for enterprise productivity," added Newman.
