FrameMaker 7.0 Now Shipping
New XML Features Streamline Business Operations and Accelerate Time to Market
SAN JOSE, Calif., May 20, 2002 - Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE), the leader in network publishing, today announced
that the newest version of FrameMaker(R) software is now available. FrameMaker 7.0 is a powerful XML authoring and publishing solution that automates
and streamlines information management across the extended enterprise. Now organizations have the power to repurpose content to employees, customers,
partners and suppliers. FrameMaker Server, also available today, gives companies the flexibility to automate and personalize the publishing of data-driven
content to multiple channels.
This latest version includes the structured authoring tools for both XML and SGML (previously available as a separate purchase) giving all users the benefit of
structured authoring at a lower price. Additionally, the new, simple WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) word processing interface allows
corporations to extend the publishing process to a broader audience, because there's no need for these users to have XML coding experience.
"The growing demand for XML-based publishing requires configurable tools for structured document editing to be coupled with robust tools for cross-media
production," said Mark Walter, senior analyst for The Seybold Report. "FrameMaker 7.0 delivers both of these capabilities in a single desktop package, and
the new server version responds to demand for automated publishing tools that plug into an organization's content infrastructure. It's priced aggressively and
plays well with enterprise publishing architectures."
FrameMaker provides businesses with an easy way to employ XML to facilitate reuse and speed time-to-market for mission-critical content. In addition to
support for the authoring, editing, importing and publishing of valid XML content, FrameMaker software's template-driven environment lets customers
efficiently publish single source documents to multiple channels. These include print, Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF), Web, eBooks and PDAs,
streamlining overall business operations. Unlike other XML-based solutions, this enables organizations to easily share files across the extended enterprise.
Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) can also be integrated into documents so Web versions can feature high quality vector graphics.
"There are many advantages for us in adopting FrameMaker 7.0 over other authoring tools, including lower price, functionality, and its widespread
acceptance," said Carol Green, director of technical communications, Voice Networks Division at Alcatel. "We can easily output FrameMaker documents to a
variety of electronic formats -- XML, Adobe PDF, and HTML -- which enables us to eliminate paper from our authoring workflow."
To streamline document collaboration, content sharing, and information search capabilities, FrameMaker now supports World Wide Web Distributed
Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) and Adobe's XMP (Extensible Metadata Platform). XMP gives Adobe applications a common framework that
standardizes the exchange of metadata across publishing workflows.
