Summus & ZIO Interactive Submit Mobile Gaming Application For TRUE BREW Certification

RALEIGH, N.C., May 20, 2002 - Summus, Inc. (USA) (OTC Bulletin Board: SUMU), a leader in the development of efficient information processing solutions for mobile and wireless devices, today announced it has submitted a second mobile application, ZIO Interactive's Phone Golf, to QUALCOMM for TRUE BREW(TM) testing. Phone Golf, a mobile golf gaming application, is powered by BlueFuel(TM), Summus' high-speed multimedia architecture for mobile networks.

One of the leading providers of gaming software for mobile and wireless devices, ZIO Interactive is incorporating Summus' BlueFuel architecture into Phone Golf and other mobile game offerings to provide a compelling gaming experience for end-users. Phone Golf is the first of several interactive BlueFuel-enabled mobile gaming software applications the two companies plan to develop and co-market for QUALCOMM's BREW platform. Summus acts as a co-developer and reseller of ZIO games, both BlueFuel-enhanced and standard, in the U.S. market, while ZIO promotes and markets BlueFuel-enhanced mobile games in Korea.

QUALCOMM carrier partners require testing before they will introduce an application onto their networks. TRUE BREW certification ensures BREW applications meet high standards for stability, quality and compliance with standard BREW platform requirements. Applications, which successfully pass testing, receive the TRUE BREW label and are digitally signed and packaged for review and download by carriers.

"Integrating the high performance capabilities of our BlueFuel mobile architecture with ZIO Interactive's superior gaming applications gives us a strong competitive advantage in what is predicted to be a high-growth segment in the wireless industry," said Dr. Bjorn Jawerth, CEO at Summus. "We look forward to achieving TRUE BREW certification on our second mobile application."

According to forecasts by research firm Datamonitor, the number of U.S. cellular phone users playing games via wireless devices is projected to grow from 21.6 million in 2002 to 93 million in 2006. USA Today reports that the U.S. mobile gaming market could generate up to $200 million in revenues in 2003 and between $700 million and $2.4 billion by 2005.

"Receiving TRUE BREW certification is an important step in launching our mobile gaming applications in the U.S. market," said Peter Kim, president and CEO of ZIO Interactive. "We selected Summus as our U.S. partner due to their experience with BREW applications. We are also very impressed with the superfast, superthin capabilities that BlueFuel brings to our product offerings as it enables ZIO to provide the best possible gaming experience for our customers."
