Intrado and GDT Partner to Develop and Deploy Applications for Emergency Services
LEBANON, N.H., May 20, 2002 - Geographic Data Technology, Inc. (GDT), a developer of premier map databases, today
announced that it will work with Intrado Inc. (NasdaqNM: TRDO) to develop and deploy new applications for use in a variety of location-sensitive services.
Intrado is a leading provider of solutions that manage and deliver mission-critical information for telecommunications providers.
Building on the success of an eight-year relationship between the two companies, Intrado will continue to use GDT's nationwide Dynamap/2000(R) street and
address database and Matchmaker(R) SDK Professional geocoding software as the geographic foundation for Intrado E9-1-1 products. GDT's map-based
applications are expected to fuel development of innovative location-sensitive services and to help public safety agencies and telecommunication carriers meet
the Federal Communication Commission's mandate for wireless E9-1-1.
GDT's premier street and address database and superior geocoding technology provide the geographic referencing information necessary to power Intrado's
intelliCastSM Target Notification Services and Coordinate Routing Database. The intelliCast Target Notification service is an integrated solution that permits a
public safety agency to provide residents with immediate and timely notification of emergencies such as natural disasters, missing children or civil disturbances.
To utilize intelliCast, public safety officials simply record a notification message and then use a computer map to highlight the precise geographical areas at risk.
These boundaries are compared with the telephone number and address database for the affected area and telephone numbers of affected households and
businesses are extracted. The intelliCast system then launches the recorded message to individuals within the emergency zone at the rate of up to 1,200 calls
per minute. When time is critical, intelliCast saves precious minutes and provides citizens more time to take precautionary measures.
The Coordinate Routing Database is a core element in Intrado's Geographic Information System (GIS) and is designed to route 9-1-1 calls from wireless
devices to the appropriate Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). Ongoing updates ensure that the Coordinate Routing Database contains the most
up-to-date emergency response information.
"GDT's comprehensive coverage of the United States provides a superior foundation for our emergency response products," said George Heinrichs, CEO of
Intrado. "Lives depend on the accuracy of our products, so we need the most complete and up-to-date street and address information possible. Because GDT
maintains a nationwide focus with consistent coverage in both rural and urban areas, we can provide location-sensitive services that provide the highest degree
of reliability."
"The relationship between Intrado and GDT has resulted in a series of products that provide public safety and telecommunications providers with robust tools
to meet regulatory requirements and better service their customers," said Mike Gerling, president and CEO of GDT. "The Intrado product offerings help
provide the safety and security that is so critical in our world today."
