SUPERCOMM 2002 and The Department of Commerce Join Forces
ARLINGTON, Va., May 20, 2002 -- SUPERCOMM 2002 is partnering with the U.S. Department of Commerce to bring international
trade experts and qualified international buyers from 28 countries to SUPERCOMM, show organizers today announced.
SUPERCOMM 2002, the premier annual communications and information technology exhibition and conference, will be held June 2-6 at the Georgia World
Congress Center in Atlanta.
The U.S. Commercial Service of the U.S. Department of Commerce recruits and qualifies international buyers and distributors to trade shows participating in
its International Buyer Program. Trade experts from U.S. embassies and consulates will meet with exhibitors interested in exporting to discuss international
business opportunities.
The trade experts will also match U.S. companies to international buyers using the International Business Matchmaker program. Both programs will be
available in the International Business Center (IBC), located in Room B401 in the Georgia World Congress Center.
According to the 2002 Telecommunications Market Review and Forecast, a surge in spending on wireless services in Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Latin
America, North America and the Asia-Pacific region jumped nearly 30 percent between 2000 and 2001 to an estimated $241.9 billion, and surpassed
spending on landline toll service for the first time.
U.S. exports of telecommunications equipment grew steadily from 1996 to 2000, with Canada, Mexico, and Japan continuing as the top 3 markets. As the
uptake of wireless technology takes off and international governments continue to privatize the sector, the outlook for U.S. telecommunications exports
remains positive for 2002 and beyond.
"Our goal is to help U.S. telecommunications companies tap their full export potential", said Maria Cino, Assistant Secretary and Director General of the U.S.
Commercial Service in Washington, DC. "Our market research and business matchmaking give U.S. companies the tools they need to increase their
international sales."
The U.S. Commercial Service is the export promotion agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce and focuses on assisting small and medium-sized U.S.
companies to increase their international business. The agency has trade specialists in 107 U.S. offices and 162 U.S. embassies and consulate overseas.
