BMD Wireless Empowers a New Generation of Mobile Data Services
BMD Wireless Deploys Core Network Platform to Enhance User Data Services and Significantly Reduce Messaging Costs
ZUG, Switzerland, May 21, 2002 - bmd wireless, the leading supplier of cross network messaging solutions, today announced in
conjunction with several mobile operator trials the commercial deployment of the Value Added Service Platform (VASP), which extracts valuable core
network data to enhance messaging services and provide substantial cost savings and efficiency gains.
The VASP enables mobile operators and associated third parties to effectively and securely deliver and manage online presence detection, immediately notify
applications as soon as the mobile subscriber is online and delivers other relevant subscriber data such as location across all wireless networks. In addition,
the platform enables high speed messaging without utilising an operator's SMSC infrastructure. The VASP is tightly integrated with proven SS7 technology
from the new HP and delivers telecom-grade stability and unmatched performance and throughput.
"In today's market it is essential for operators and service providers to enhance value added data services by collecting, analysing and processing valuable real
time information contained within wireless networks. By supplying business intelligence to applications and messaging services, mobile operators and service
providers are able to offer enhanced customer convenience while generating new revenue streams," said Brian Rueger, Chief Operating Officer of bmd
wireless.
For services such as instant messaging, mobile transactions, emergency services and real time exchange of interactive communication, the VASP is a key
component delivering time sensitive information and ensuring efficient interactions across various mediums.
"The VASP is an essential element to reduce messaging costs, maximise an operator's business and minimise on-going investments. Not only does the VASP
provide sophisticated business intelligence for valuable data mining, the platform also offloads application messaging traffic from current SMSCs and enables
messages to be directly delivered to millions of end users in a matter of seconds," said Rueger.
The platform can be deployed as a separate hardware and software environment, easily incorporated with traditional CRM systems and data mining centers or
integrated with bmd's Wireless Application Messaging Server (WAMS), the most widely deployed cross network messaging system and the first commercial
platform to enable two-way interactive connectivity for AOL's ICQ Instant Messaging Service to 600 million mobile users throughout the world.
