MI4E Launches Publicly Available MMS Server
URL(s): www.mi4e.com
Miami, FL and Stockholm, Sweden - (May 23, 2002) Mi4e, a leading producer of mobile infrastructure software, has launched a publicly available Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) for trial and testing purposes. Through mi4e’s MMS Portal, users can experience the power of multimedia messaging with online access to their inbox, outbox, and online content for the first time anywhere in the world.
MMS is the next generation of mobile messaging that supports color pictures and graphics, sound, music, text and video. Support for MMS has been announced by all of the major mobile phone manufacturers, and it will be available in handsets beginning in the second quarter of 2002.
Mi4e’s Embedded Mobilizationä suite includes a full Multimedia Message System Center (MMSC), Short Message System Center (SMSC) gateway, and WAP gateway that provide turnkey support for multiple formats in mobile message delivery. In addition, the technology suite incorporates Mi4e’s Over the Air (OTA) Provisioning platform, which allows users to automatically configure phone settings for the major phone manufacturer’s handsets—including Nokia, Ericsson, Siemens, Alcatel, and Phillips.
“We believe this is the first time MMS services for any MMS capable mobile phone has been made publicly available to the end user,” said James Ewing, Founder and CTO. “After having tested this platform extensively with MMS prototype phones from major manufacturers, we felt that making the platform available to the public is necessary for the growth and advancement of MMS messaging,“ he added.
Mi4e’s MMS platform is commercially available and the company is scheduled to launch its Java J2ME “midlet” delivery platform in the second quarter of 2002. Several operators and manufacturers, including Ericsson, Sonera, Telstra, and Tele2 currently use Mi4e’s mobile services and products.
Interested participants may trial the Mi4e MMS platform at www.mi4e.com and register at demo@mi4e.com.
