NORWEGIAN DEFENSE CONTRACTOR SECURES WIRELESS ACCESS WITH COLUMBITECH WIRELESS SUITE
- Security-driven industry selects Columbitech for secure and reliable
wireless connectivity
STOCKHOLM - May 29, 2002 - Columbitech, a software provider of secure
wireless access to corporate data, announced that Kongsberg Finans, the
financial arm of Norwegian technology and defense contractor Kongsberg
Group, has bought Columbitech Wireless Suite to secure the highly
confidential data on their corporate IT network. Kongsberg Finans will
use the product to secure GPRS wireless WAN connections and home office
connections to the company's corporate LAN. Given the sensitivity of
the data that a defense contractor deals with, in terms of mission
critical technology, large financial transactions, and highly visible
clients, the selection of Columbitech's technology demonstrates its
capability to handle the most rigorous of operating parameters for
wireless access.
When mobility within organizations increases, security becomes
increasingly crucial to corporate IT departments. Kongsberg's objective
is to provide its employees with wireless enabled Notebook PCs and
handheld devices, in order to access their corporate data independent of
where they are at any given moment. Kongsberg is deploying Pocket PCs
and Notebook PCs, and Columbitech has versions of its software for each
of these platforms.
Columbitech Wireless Suite eliminates security holes and user
frustrations associated with wireless data communication by delivering
strong security, enhanced performance, and convenient always-on
connectivity. Columbitech Wireless Suite supports all major wireless
network standards such as wireless LAN, GPRS, GSM and UMTS, giving
customers the ability to add on new wireless options without having to
reinvest in new infrastructure for each new network.

In the beginning of May, Columbitech announced a breakthrough order to
American hardware vendor Symbol Technologies who manufacturers wireless
devices and access points. Columbitech's technology will be part of
Symbol's wireless solution AirBEAM Safe that secures wireless LAN and
WAN networks using a combination of Columbitech's standards based,
wireless optimized security technology and Symbol's proven management
software.
