PADCOM LAUNCHES PORT ROUTING SOFTWARE FOR WIRELESS DATA NETWORKS

BETHLEHEM, PA, May 30, 2002 - Padcom, Inc., a software company that creates a virtual single data network through the combination of multiple dissimilar wireless networks, today announced the launch of its Port Routing software, a patent-pending product that enables IT administrators to control how wireless data is transmitted and the applications that mobile users can access Port Routing simplifies the management of wireless data networks for IT departments, reducing the amount of ongoing support they need to provide.
The Port Routing product is being integrated into Padcom's TotalControl, a tool for IT administrators to manage data applications over multiple wireless networks. Total Control is one of four software components in Padcom's Connectivity Suite, a modular software platform that controls and simplifies information flow over wireless data networks.
"To make wireless data communication valuable for the end user, it needs to be simple to use and simple to administrate," said Mark Ferguson, marketing director at Padcom. "With our Port Routing software, the IT administrator could configure e-mail applications to communicate only when a wireless LAN network is in coverage, disallow the use of web browsers over any network, and allow CAD system traffic to occur over any network. This is just one of many configuration scenarios the IT administrator may choose depending on their needs."
By creating a "mobile firewall" for client devices, the Port Routing product enables IT administrators to establish their own detailed business rules for routing data and controlling information flow over wireless data networks. IT administrators can now select the applications they want to be routed over specific wireless networks.
