Commercial Shipments of Nokia 9290 Communicator Begin Today


Nokia's Newest Converged Device Enters Internet, Retail, Distributor and Integrator Channels

IRVING, Texas, Jun 3, 2002 - Nokia (NYSE:NOK) today began commercial shipments of the Nokia 9290 Communicator in the United States through a variety of distribution channels. Nokia's newest converged device for the Americas market, the Nokia 9290 Communicator combines the convenience of a PDA, the power or a laptop and the freedom of a mobile phone in a compact 8.6-ounce package. The suggested retail price of the Nokia 9290 Communicator is $599 USD.

Beginning today, The Nokia 9290 Communicator will be distributed through 4 different sales channels, including retail, Internet, distributor and systems integrator.

Consumers will be able to purchase the Nokia 9290 Communicator through most CompUSA locations across the United States. CompUSA will provide in home or office installation, including connection to the customer's ISP, e-mail account, and setup of Nokia PC Suite, free of charge through the end of June. Consumers can also buy directly via the Internet at www.nokiausa.com. Nokia authorized resellers will be able to order the Nokia 9290 Communicator from Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE:IM), the largest global wholesale provider of technology products and supply chain management services as well as EYT, a leading application service provider and solutions integrator. Systems integrators, including Cap Gemini Ernst and Young and IBM Global Services, are now able to offer the Nokia 9290 Communicator as part of their total systems integration package to enterprises looking to mobilize their information services.

"Our customers expect to see the latest in cutting edge computing and wireless technology, which is exactly what this new product represents."

Based on the Symbian operating system, the Nokia 9290 Communicator combines GSM wireless phone capability with a TFT active-matrix color screen, full PDA functionality, Java(TM), e-mail with support for attachments and Internet access. Adding additional value for the mobile business professional, it also easily integrates with a number of enterprise solutions, including Oracle, Citrix and Lotus.

Along with standard applications that are resident on the Nokia 9290 Communicator, including word processing, spreadsheet, and a full HTML Internet browser, a wide range of additional applications will also be included on the standard CD-ROM that comes packaged with the product. A sampling of these applications include Macromedia Flash Player, the mobile version of RealNetworks RealOne Player, an e-book reader and Snake EX, an advanced version of Nokia's popular Snake maze game.

"Nokia users will have a wide range of rich mobile content at their disposal with the inclusion of Macromedia Flash Player with the Nokia 9290 Communicator," said Peter Meechan, vice president, Macromedia. "Users will have the ability to take Macromedia Flash content, applications, and services with them wherever they go, while the more than one million Macromedia Flash developers have an entirely new channel available to market their applications."
