More fun on the network: Siemens and Picofun cooperate to offer end-to-end solution for mobile gaming

The Siemens' Information and Communication Mobile Group (IC
Mobile) and Picofun are collaborating in the field of gaming
services for mobile radio networks. As part of the
agreement, Siemens will be integrating Picofun's
"PlayGround" platform in mobile networks, along with the
associated games, and taking on the job of global service
and hosting. This partnership brings enormous advantages to
carriers and service providers, giving them a complete,
fully-fledged solution for mobile gaming from an experienced
network integrator with a comprehensive catalog of
attractive games.
"We would like to offer users of mobile data services a
consistent user experience as far as device, application and
content are concerned," said Volker Ziegler, President of
Solutions within the Information and Communication Mobile
Group. "In Picofun we've found a partner who can offer a
forward-looking platform stemming from the company's
activity in the Mobile Games Interoperability Forum (MGIF).
Picofun also comes with a whole host of very attractive
games - including a large number of well-known brands. It
means we can offer carriers a gaming solution that fits
seamlessly into the network and promises good returns from
end customers."
"As a global company, Siemens IC Mobile will be an excellent
distribution channel for us," said Carl-Greger Leijonhufvud,
CEO of Picofun. "This partnership will enable us to extend
the range of our platform along with the applications.
Siemens is a highly attractive partner for us because it
offers such a wide range of services, from service
certification and system integration to selling applications
and hosting and operating entire solutions."
Picofun's gaming platform will conform to the future
specifications of the MGIF (Mobile Games Interoperability
Forum) (www.mgif.org), a standardizing body in which both
Picofun and Siemens both play a very active role. With
development tools (Standard Tool Development Kit, SDK), APIs
(Application Programming Interfaces), and initiatives like
the Siemens Mobile Partner Program (see
http://www.siemens.com/mobile-partners), the standard will
support software developers in designing standard-compliant
games. That will make it easier for game and service
providers to offer their customers in different networks new
games for any terminal.
