Codetoys and Virgin Mobile offer first ever skill-with-cash-prize mobile game Cult Football game Subbuteo Coming to Your Mobile

(London - June 6, 2002) Codetoys, the premier provider of complete mobile
entertainment services, today announces a deal with Virgin Mobile, the UK's
fifth network, to offer the cult football game Subbuteo - the first ever
skill mobile game with a cash prize. The game has been jointly developed
with brand owner Hasbro and specialist "skills with prizes" (SWP) games
developer Maygay.
Loosely following the format and trivia of the 2002 World Cup , the new game
involves players correctly answering football trivia questions. Mobile
Subbuteo is the first game available in the UK to offer cash prizes to the
players who reach a certain specified level. Players simply answer five
questions correctly to qualify and then continue to play for the instant
prizes or gamble for a place in the final - where they get a shot at the £20
instant cash prize. Virgin Mobile is also offering airtime prizes of £3, £5
and £10 which are added to the winner's account instantly. Each text message
sent costs 20p with the reply sent for free.
Subbuteo is available to all Virgin Mobile customers and will be marketed on
the operators' web site, as well as via SMS alerts. Codetoys is the licencee
for the mobile rights to Subbuteo and is responsible for the hosting, 24/7
maintenance, and customer care of the game.
Mobile Subbuteo completes the Subbuteo 2002 range, which will also include a
new pub SWP game developed by Maygay that will be rolled out on over 8,000
game terminals in pubs and bars across the UK in time for the World Cup.
The Subbuteo mobile and pub games are part of a major marketing initiative
by Hasbro to position Subbuteo as 'The Football Lifestyle Brand of 2002'.
Stephen Green, UK Licensing Director at Hasbro says: "Subbuteo remains the
leading football game on the market and is part of our culture in the UK
with awareness of 99% amongst adults and 91% amongst kids.
Garry Lloyd, Head of Value Added Services Futures, at Virgin Mobile says:
"We anticipate Mobile Subbuteo to enjoy the same level of success as Who
Wants To Be A Millionaire? and Trivial Pursuit. The combination of World Cup
2002 and the popularity of the Subbuteo brand prvide the perfect criteria to
make this game a sure-fire hit with our customers."
Matti Hämäläinen, founder and CTO of Codetoys says: "The most successful
mobile games are those based on big brand names. Subbuteo is ideal because
it has proven to be the leading football game for over 50 years."
