Rocket Mobile Demonstrates Content Viewing Technology for QUALCOMM's BREW Platform at BREW 2002 Developers Conference
URL(s): Rocket Mobile
LOS GATOS, Calif.--June 6-- Rocket Mobile(TM), a leading
provider of wireless software solutions and technologies, has demonstrated a
handset-based content viewing technology for QUALCOMM's Binary Runtime
Environment for Wireless(TM) (BREW(TM)) platform at the BREW 2002 Developers
Conference held in San Diego, June 3-5. The content viewing technology
provides state-of-the-art functionality and enables users to view, interact
with and easily navigate the Internet directly from their BREW-enabled
handsets, providing a visually appealing experience for consumers.
"This application framework allows us to bring rich Web-based content from
the Internet to BREW-enabled handsets," said Wayne Yurtin, president and CEO
of Rocket Mobile, Inc. "Using this content viewing platform, Rocket Mobile
can provide its customers with a visually rich application that leverages the
existing wireless content investment those content providers have already
made."
"QUALCOMM's BREW platform helps to merge the timely and useful content
found on the Internet with the mobility of wireless devices," said Jan Lezny,
senior director of developer and OEM relations, QUALCOMM Internet Services.
"Rocket Mobile's content viewing technology is a perfect example of how the
BREW platform makes this possible and enables developers to make their mark in
the wireless space."
Rocket Mobile's new content viewing technology is one of several cutting
edge products developed by the Silicon Valley-based developer. Rocket Mobile
launched a suite of applications at the recent CTIA Wireless 2002 show in
Orlando, FL. Those applications included: MobileExpense(TM), go2(R)
Directory, and MobileConverter(TM) -- each running on multiple handsets from
multiple handset vendors. Rocket Mobile's applications are available for over
the air download today on BREW-enabled handsets from Verizon Wireless.
QUALCOMM's BREW platform is a thin application execution environment that
provides an open, standard platform for wireless devices. The BREW platform
is part of a complete, end-to-end solution for wireless applications
development, device configuration, application distribution, and billing and
payment. The complete BREW solution includes the BREW SDK(TM) (software
development kit) for developers, the BREW applications platform and porting
tools for device manufacturers, and the BREW Distribution System (BDS) that is
controlled and managed by carriers -- enabling them to easily get applications
from developers to market and coordinate the billing and payment process.
Carriers' BREW-based services will enable consumers to customize their
handsets by downloading applications over the air from a carrier's application
download server. The BREW platform is a product of QUALCOMM Internet Services
(QIS), a division within the QUALCOMM Wireless & Internet (QWI) Group of
QUALCOMM Incorporated.
