First BlackBerry in Europe

URL(s): RIM

Bonn/ Munich -- June 12, 2002 – Awaiting a vital e-mail but have an appointment? With the GPRS compatible BlackBerry 5820 wireless handheld, that will no longer be a problem. T-Mobile Deutschland launches the first European mobile end-to-end solution with voice and browser functions.

“Always on” over the GPRS-network, the BlackBerry complete solution consists of the BlackBerry handheld, BlackBerry server software as well as a push-service. The push-service guarantees that all appointments and e-mails are constantly up-to-date and complete, and that they are automatically forwarded to the handheld. Internet services are also available.

The end-to-end solution encryption offers the highest security during data transfer and the solution is easily integrated into the IT-infrastructure of a business. “Already 30 percent of all employees have mobile phones. In order to use this potential, T-Mobile has built strategic... the result of which is a balanced offering of secure, fast and comfortable solutions. One of them is the BlackBerry solution which we are bringing to the market this year along with other products,” said Nikesh Arora, board member of T-Mobile International and responsible for New Business and Global Products.

The solution was based upon a collaboration with Research In Motion (RIM), the Canadian company that developed BlackBerry. The cooperation was a continuation of the agreement between RIM and Voicestream signed for the American market last year. T-Mobile has further business operations planned until the end of the year in countries where it also has a presence.
