Enhanced Tracking Software is Core of New Focus
CENTENNIAL, COLO., 13 June 2002 – CompassCom Inc., the provider of Automatic
Vehicle Location (AVL) technology to the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City,
has created and filled two new executive positions to expand the CompassCom
line of software into asset tracking and location based service (LBS)
solutions in support of Homeland Security and related programs.
Craig Snapp has assumed the new position of Chief Technology Officer, and
Montie Carr will assume the new position of Chief Marketing Officer. Both
joined CompassCom on June 10.
"Craig and Montie will leverage our success in the marketplace and with their
experience and innovative ideas, provide guidance for addressing the emerging
Homeland Security markets," said CompassCom President and CEO W. Brant
Howard.
Snapp brings an impressive list of accomplishments in the software and
network technology industry to CompassCom. With more than 25 years of
experience, Snapp will work to expand the CompassCom AVL products into a
suite of modular, platform-neutral products.
"By providing the industry with a platform-neutral suite of products,
third-party developers will be able to integrate CompassCom’s server
technology as the communications gateway for virtually any type of asset,
data or location tracking system," said Snapp.
Carr has more than 20 years of executive-level, business development
experience in the communications industry. Carr’s goals for CompassCom
include expanding strategic relationships with customers and business
partners to enable business growth, and analysis of the emerging Homeland
Security market.
"In the post 9/11 world, organizations need to track the locations and status
of people, assets and sensors, as well as vehicles," said Carr. "CompassCom
has the proven technology to accomplish this and will use this technology as
a basis to expand its suite of software products."
CompassFDE™ and CompassTrac™ received rave reviews from local and federal
agencies at the 2002 Winter Games where they were installed to monitor the
movement of public safety vehicles and athlete transportation.
Under the new direction, CompassCom will leverage its proven CompassFDE™
server technology to develop several new products. CompassCom will form
strategic partnerships with leading GIS and GPS system developers to embed
the server software into new custom and off-the-shelf products. CompassCom
will also be releasing a software developers kit (SDK). Additional plans are
underway to build turnkey asset tracking and location based appliance
products on the CompassFDE™ architecture.
CompassCom was established in 1994 as a product and service provider for
Global Positioning System (GPS), Geographic Information System (GIS), and
Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) markets. CompassCom offers complete GPS and
GIS solutions as a business partner with Trimble Navigation, ESRI Inc., and
AT&T Wireless.
