Wipro Technologies Unveils Its Bluetooth Automotive and Dial-Up Gateway Solutions for Chip Vendors

Demonstrates its Bluetooth Capabilities at the Bluetooth Congress

BANGALORE, India and SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jun 14, 2002 - Wipro Technologies, the global IT services division of Wipro Limited (NYSE:WIT), has unveiled its Bluetooth Automotive and Dial-up Gateway solutions targeted for silicon vendors.

Wipro will demonstrate these Bluetooth capabilities at the Bluetooth Congress, the world's leading Bluetooth event, being held in Amsterdam this year.

The Bluetooth Dial-up Networking solution enables short-range wireless connectivity between a PC/Laptop and the external network (PSTN or GSM) via a Bluetooth-enabled Modem, dramatically increasing user mobility. Wipro's Dial-up Networking Profile software can be quickly plugged-in to build a Bluetooth-enabled Modem, ensuring vital time-to-market advantage for developers. Wipro will also demonstrate its Bluetooth Solutions working on the Windows NT/2K Operating System.

As part of its Automotive Solutions, Wipro is demonstrating its Hands-free Profile at the Bluetooth Congress. Wipro's hands-free Profile can be integrated with its other Bluetooth building blocks to develop the Hands-free Car Kit. The car kit allows a user to place and receive calls at the touch of a button while driving and keeping the mobile phone stored away, increasing roadway safety.

"The demand for Automotive and Consumer Electronics market will continue to drive connectivity technology," said Ramesh Emani, Chief Executive, Embedded and Internet Access Division, Wipro Technologies. "We have a leadership position in connectivity solutions with our Bluetooth, Wireless LAN, IEEE 1394 and USB solutions. Development of Wipro's Bluetooth Automotive and Dial-up Gateway solutions reflects our commitment to make technology reach consumers," he added.

Wipro has joined hands with Austria Micro Systems (AMS) for co-development of the complete Bluetooth solution. Under the terms of the partnership, Wipro's BQB (Baumann Qualitath Management Beratumg) qualified Blutooth Baseband Controller and Stack will be incorporated with the AMS radio to develop complete Bluetooth solutions. With its Bluetooth radio and chipset development expertise, AMS will complement Wipro's Bluetooth offerings, providing a complete solution to chip vendors and other customers.

Wipro has an extensive suite of Bluetooth building blocks consisting of the high performance, low gate count Bluetooth Hardware Baseband Controller, Bluetooth Software Baseband Controller, and Bluetooth Stack and Profiles. Wipro is one of the first companies in the world to attain qualification for all 13 BQB Version 1.1 profiles. Wipro now has 15 Profiles to support its footprint-lean Stack that has been tested on multiple industry leading processors and other third party Bluetooth Controllers. Wipro's portfolio of Bluetooth IPs is supported by a vast spectrum of VLSI and System design as well as embedded software expertise allowing Wipro to offer customers a comprehensive, end-to-end solution.
