BEDMINSTER, N.J., Jun 17, 2002 -- Verizon Wireless is launching the national availability of the
first in a line of services that will make the wireless phone a resource for consumers to have access to entertainment, games,
productivity tools and current information. Starting today, consumers nationwide can shop for a variety of gaming, entertainment
and productivity applications that they can download over the air on select phones.
Polyphonic ring tones from Faith West, Inc., the newest downloadable offering that will prove to be one of the most popular
applications, closely replicate musical notes and distinguishes between drums and guitar for example. Users further personalize their
phones and customize them so that a favorite romantic song plays when a loved one calls and will play yet another song when it is
the boss. During an initial trial of these downloadable applications, users were obsessed with games such as EA SPORTS(TM)
Tiger Woods PGA TOUR(R) Golf and JAMDAT Bowling provided by JAMDAT Mobile Inc.; entertainment services such as
Mattel, Inc.'s Magic 8 Ball(R); and the hundreds of musical ring tones from Moviso LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Vivendi
Universal Net USA. (See following list of applications and handset compatibility).
Verizon Wireless is the first and only wireless service provider in the U.S. to offer these downloadable applications over the air
using BREW(TM) technology from QUALCOMM. The company initially launched downloadable applications commercially on
March 18, 2002 in San Diego.

offerings has already proven popular with the game crowd," said John Stratton, vice president and chief marketing officer of
Verizon Wireless. "Customers will continue to switch to Verizon Wireless for clear, quality voice calls, and a growing number
are taking advantage of the additional invaluable functionality offered through services such as BREW."
Verizon Wireless customers with a BREW-capable phone can purchase applications through the "BREW Shop" option on their
phone. Customers can demo applications and select from a variety of license pricing options. For example, 99 cents for 10 uses,
or $2.99 for a monthly subscription that provides unlimited use for the duration of the subscription.
Airtime charges accrue during the selection and download process, which depending on the application size, may take seconds or
a few minutes. Once downloaded, applications without a wireless connection requirement can be accessed anytime without
incurring airtime charges. Purchased applications will appear on the customer's monthly Verizon Wireless service bill.
BREW services are initially available on the Verizon Wireless Z-800 with full color display ($399.99 with a two-year service
agreement), and the Kyocera 3035e ($99.99 with a two-year service agreement and a $50 mail-in rebate). Customers can
purchase a BREW-capable phone at Verizon Wireless Communications Stores throughout the country and participating
RadioShack locations, or online at http://www.VerizonWireless.com.
