China Mobile Communications Corporate Ltd. (MCC) and Siemens Shanghai Mobile Communications Ltd. (SSMC) signed a contract for the expansion of the GSM network in the province of Hubei. The contract includes the delivery of the new Switch Commander system and the overall implementation service. The EUR 21 million project will be completed at the end of 2002.

To enhance the capacity and disposal ability of the MCC GSM network in the province of Hubei, the Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Group (IC Mobile) will deliver the latest Switch Commander to the Chinese operator. With this new core network operation system China MCC will be able to meet the demand of the more than four million subscribers on new mobile data applications. The investment will also ensure a smooth migration of the China MCC GSM network towards 3G.

The Switch Commander is the newest system for second and third generation mobile telecommunication. It is a unique solution of Siemens and ensures the interest of the operators by protecting the initial investment and reduces the operating and training costs. The Siemens IC Mobile Switch Commander has an open system structure and standardized interfaces, which provide the mobile network operators with a high flexibility. "We are glad, that China MCC underscores the relationship by choosing our Switch Commander to expand their network. This will protect their investment on the way to a future 3G network".
