Cybit integrates Trafficmaster's next generation Smartnav intelligent navigation system into its Fleetstar telematics solution

New Trafficmaster solutions combines Smartnav's powerful driver navigation
capabilities with real-time fleet management and historical analysis tools
Cybit, the UK's fastest growing provider of telematics and fleet management
solutions, has extended its Fleetstar telematics and fleet management
solution by adding full integration for Trafficmaster's next generation
Smartnav intelligent navigation system launched earlier this week (June 12).
Smartnav is a major advance in telematics services, combining satellite
navigation, mobile telephony technology from Motorola and traffic
information from Trafficmaster's established network of sensors and cameras
that cover over 8,000 miles of the UK's main roads. Cybit's rapid
integration of Smartnav confirms the flexibility of its dynamic Fleetstar
fleet management solution and illustrates the clear value of Cybit's
distinctive open telematics approach.
The integration of Smartnav into Fleetstar-equipped vehicles now provides
drivers with the advanced satellite navigation, live traffic information and
'personal assistant' capabilities, as well as fleet managers with real-time
fleet management and historical analysis tools. The combination of Fleetstar
and Smartnav also enables fleets to achieve telematics 'best practice' by
directing them along the most efficient route to their destination, whilst
avoiding congestion. This is an increasingly important requirement given the
Government's decision to focus on satellite-based telematics as a means of
reducing road congestion during the life of this parliament.
"The launch of Trafficmaster's Smartnav system is a significant industry
development and Cybit has moved quickly to combine Smartnav's intelligent
navigation capabilities with the proven fleet management and historical
analysis benefits that Fleetstar already offers fleet managers," commented
Richard Horsman, CEO of Cybit. "Since our acquisition of Fleetstar from
Trafficmaster last quarter, we've continued to work closely together and we
look forward to further co-operation as we focus on integrating Smartnav's
range of exciting new location-based services into our broader Fleetstar
telematics and fleet management solutions."
CEO at Trafficmaster, David Martell, added: "Our Smartnav unit provides a
number of compelling benefits to users by avoiding congestion, offering SOS
facilities and using our personal assistant services to make their journey
easier. Typical services include finding points of interest on route,
locating and directing drivers to hotels, hospitals and service stations,
providing emergency and breakdown service liaison and re-assuring drivers if
they feel threatened in the car. By providing these additional benefits to
fleet drivers, Cybit can actively help improve their safety and performance,
whilst also providing measurement and reporting capabilities to fleet
managers to ensure that all driving standards are the same high quality."
At the push of a button on the Smartnav unit, the driver is connected to a
'personal assistant' (PA). The system is able to confirm the location of the
vehicle and the PA will take down a destination or an instruction.
Directions are downloaded to the vehicle and include road numbers. This
provides the motorist with clear and concise directions. When a route is
calculated and sent to the vehicle, it takes into account the quickest and
easiest route using Trafficmaster's predictive, historical, live and
incident traffic information. With the addition of Route Guard, an
application that proactively monitors traffic congestion, drivers are
alerted to problems and are given the option to choose an alternative route
to avoid traffic delays.
About Trafficmaster plc
Trafficmaster plc is the world's foremost provider of dynamic driver
information and a key player in the commercial development of intelligent
transport systems for the future. Founded in 1988 by David Martell, the
company's chief executive, the company has since achieved high levels of
growth through delivery of a high quality product to become a pivotal player
in Europe's telematics marketplace.
The core business of Trafficmaster is the provision of high quality, live
traffic information. In the UK, the company has developed a state-of-the-art

gathered data at the company's headquarters at Cranfield in Bedfordshire,
England and it is delivered on to the customer through a number of screen or
speech-based receivers. These include Trafficmaster Monitor, YQ² and
Oracle/Freeway units, mounted in the vehicle; mobile phone services in
partnership with the UK's main mobile phone networks and the company's
traffic information web site www.trafficmaster.net provides live traffic
information on the PC at home or in the office.
