Mobilitec and Mitsubishi Electric Telecom Showcase Advanced Download Performance on Java Phone

San Mateo, CA – June 18, 2002. Mobilitec, the leading provider of Over-the-Air provisioning solutions for wireless carriers, and Mitsubishi Electric Telecom, the innovative handset manufacturer, today announced the successful completion of integration and interoperability tests between Mobilitec’s provisioning platform, mPowerTM, and a Mitsubishi Electric Telecom Java handset, a prototype based on the technical platform of the Trium Eclipse.

“mPower’s drivers-based architecture and ‘hot update’ technology enables carriers to quickly and seamlessly integrate and support additional new devices with zero downtime, thus enhancing their service offering with minimal effort and cost.” said Alex Rudnicki, Business Development Director, Mobilitec. “We are pleased to cooperate with Mitsubishi Electric Telecom and to offer out-of-the-box support for their color, Java OTA-enabled handset.” Thanks to mPower’s capabilities, complete integration of the Eclipse-based prototype has taken only few days to complete. It demonstrates the unique extendibility of mPower, as well as the ability of Mobilitec to quickly enhance the device offering of carriers. The combination of mPower’s over-the-air download capability with the large, color display of the Eclipse makes it an ideal device for providing improved user experience and maximizing the potential of wireless Java (J2ME) applications.

“Tuned towards enabling seamless communication, Mitsubishi Electric Telecom’s products offer the combination of stylish look, simplicity and innovative technology. The Eclipse is one of the first and most advanced devices offering download capabilities through a color graphic display,” said Kouji Kodera, Marketing Director at Mitsubishi Electric Telecom. “Through our relationship with Mobilitec, we are able to actually demonstrate our capabilities to successfully adapt handsets like the Eclipse to the fast growing world of wireless data services including new technologies like Java.”
