Oracle Ahead of BEA and IBM in Application Server Adoption Rates
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Jan. 17 -- (Nasdaq:
ORCL), the world's largest enterprise software company, today announced a recent report from Hurwitz Group placing Oracle first in application
server penetration and planned deployment rates, ahead of IBM and BEA. Hurwitz Group's report titled, "Application Server Market Share - A
Different Angle," cites the breadth of functionality in Oracle's application server, the low pricing and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of the product,
and Oracle's leadership in the database market as reasons for Oracle's momentum in the application server market. Overall, Hurwitz expects Oracle9i
Application Server to maintain and extend its position in the rapidly growing Application Services Infrastructure (ASI) market.
Hurwitz Group, a research, analyst, and consulting firm, revealed that Oracle leads the industry in application server market penetration. For the report,
Hurwitz Group surveyed 150 information technology decision makers in North America and found that of the companies that are using application
servers, nearly 37 percent deployed Oracle's solution. The survey revealed IBM's WebSphere in second place position with 27 percent of the
respondents deploying the product, and BEA's WebLogic in third place with 17 percent.
"Oracle has, beyond a shadow of a doubt, penetrated more organizations in North America than any other supplier of application servers," the report
states. "Oracle possesses greater application server market strength than many might have thought, and poses a definitive threat to market-size based
leaders."
Additionally, the survey results highlight that Oracle9i Application Server is ranked first by organizations in North America planning to deploy an
application server through 2002 -- 50 percent of the respondents plan to deploy Oracle. The report concludes that Oracle offers a complete and
strongly integrated horizontal enterprise application story, and indicates that it is the vendor demonstrating the biggest momentum in the application
server market.
Results of this study were drawn from a survey completed in late summer, 2001.
