CDMA Development Group Expands Participation in Global Industry Organizations
URL(s): www.cdg.org
COSTA MESA, Calif., Jul 22, 2002 - Demonstrating its commitment to the global wireless community, the CDMA
Development Group (CDG)( www.cdg.org) has expanded its membership and active participation in leading telecom industry associations.
The CDG has been a long-standing member of Third Generation Partnership Project 2 (3GPP2), Inter-American Telecommunication
Commission (CITEL), International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA).
More recently, the CDG has signed joint membership agreements with Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA), Latin
American Wireless Industry Association (Alacel), and an MoU with Association of Telecommunications Enterprises of the Andean Community
(ASETA).
"The CDG's work with these organizations exemplifies our commitment to drive the evolution of wireless technologies to meet the needs of
markets around the world in an emerging, information-intensive environment," said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDG.
The collaboration between these groups and the CDG includes an exchange of information on the implementation and deployment of the
IMT-2000 family of standards, and participation in public events and educational workshops.
Through its work with 3GPP2, ITU and TIA, CDG contributes to setting standards for CDMA technologies. Most recently, CDG facilitated the
creation of standards for CDMA2000 1X, 1xEV-DO and 1xEV-DV, compiled carrier needs for all-IP core network evolution and developed
R-UIM capability requirements and specifications.
With CITEL and ITU, CDG helps to set regulatory and policy frameworks that promote the deployment of wireless technologies based on
open standards and encompassing all core architectures.
The agreements with Alacel and ASETA demonstrate the CDG's strong commitment to supporting the growth of wireless telecommunications
services in Latin America.
The CDMA Development Group is a nonprofit trade association formed to foster the worldwide development, implementation and use of
cdmaOne(TM) and CDMA2000. The 110 member companies of the CDG include many of the world's largest wireless operators and
equipment manufacturers. The primary activities of the CDG include development of CDMA features and services, public relations, education
and seminars, regulatory affairs and international support.
Currently, there are more than 500 individuals working within various CDG subcommittees on CDMA-related matters. For more information
about the CDG, contact Valerie Christopherson of the CDG News Bureau at 714/540-1030, ext. 14, e-mail vchristopherson@bockpr.com, or
