SnapTrack Holds Second Annual gpsOne Carrier Workshop

Position Location Leaders Share Commercial Location-Based Services and E911 Experiences
CAMPBELL, Calif., Jul 23, 2002 - SnapTrack, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq:
QCOM), today announced the successful conclusion of its Second Annual gpsOne(TM) Carrier Workshop. The wireless location-based services
workshop was held in San Francisco, California, and provided representatives from 18 major CDMA carriers from North America, Asia-Pacific
and Latin America, representing nearly 80% of the global CDMA market, with a comprehensive overview of gpsOne-based, end-to-end wireless
location solutions.
Discussions included commercial location-based services (LBS) and E911 deployment case studies from Asian and North American carriers.
Integrated into the QUALCOMM MSM(TM) series of wireless CDMA modems, QUALCOMM's gpsOne wireless location solution has enabled a
host of new value-added, high-precision LBS such as friend finder, child safety, personal direction finding and mobile yellow page services. It has
also enabled carriers to fulfill their Federal Communications Commission (FCC) E911 wireless safety obligations. Approximately three million
gpsOne-enabled terminals are in use today, supporting nearly 100 high-precision gpsOne-based LBS in Japan and Korea.
"We are extremely pleased with the level of participation, and candid exchange, on the part of the gpsOne workshop participants," said Bret Sewell,
president of SnapTrack. "Nearly 100 different gpsOne-enabled high-precision, location-based services are providing significant mass-market value
in Japan and Korea. We are also helping carriers in other regions, like the Americas, lay the groundwork for location-based services in their
markets. The interest we are seeing in high-precision, location-based services, combined with the fact that E911 deployments by CDMA carriers in
the United States are well under way, indicates we may see multiple mass-market location-based service deployments in the coming year."
Speakers from carriers, CDMA handset manufacturers, application providers and infrastructure suppliers presented and described each component
in the deployment chain needed to launch gpsOne-based value-added commercial location-based services and emergency wireless location systems.
Applications developers described the LBS development and deployment process, discussed the combination of the Binary Runtime Environment
for Wireless(TM) (BREW(TM)) solution and gpsOne to enhance service availability, and conducted live demonstrations of commercial and
pre-commercial services.
"gpsOne gives carriers the means to provide compelling, personalized and localized services to their subscribers," said Dr. Paul E. Jacobs, group
president, QUALCOMM Wireless and Internet Group. "Some of the most popular Japanese 3G services rely on precision gpsOne location
information combined with a BREW-enabled phone displaying a moving high resolution map. Carriers are seeing an increase in wireless data use
and voice traffic, as consumers interact with each other through a combination of location, data and voice services."
Dr. Jacobs also described the benefits of a combination of the BREW solution and gpsOne, which enhances service availability, and makes it easier
for content and applications providers to monetize and deploy new services in conjunction with their carrier partners.
Live gpsOne demonstrations were conducted in highly blocked urban and indoor environments using fully integrated commercial and
pre-commercial phones powered by QUALCOMM's MSM5100(TM) 3G and gpsOne-enabled CDMA chipset. The gpsOne demonstrations
included a voice-activated pedestrian and vehicle navigation demonstration through San Francisco, as well as indoor demonstrations inside the Hyatt
Regency San Francisco Hotel in the Embarcadero district.
QUALCOMM's cost-effective gpsOne solution, using SnapTrack end-to-end position location technology and QUALCOMM's MSM series of
gpsOne-enabled CDMA chipsets, offers robust data availability under the most challenging conditions, whether in concrete and steel high-rises,
convention centers, shopping malls or urban canyons. Using a hybrid approach that utilizes signals from both the Global Positioning System (GPS)
satellite constellation and from CDMA cell sites, the gpsOne solution enhances location services availability, expands terrain coverage, accelerates
the location determination process and provides better accuracy for callers, whether during emergency situations or while using gpsOne-enabled
commercial applications. QUALCOMM's gpsOne-enabled MSM series of chipsets are fully supported by the SnapTrack SnapSmart(TM) location
server software, and provide all-terrain performance that is unmatched by any other product in the industry; as long as a call can be placed, wireless
callers can rely on the gpsOne solution to provide their location wherever and whenever they need it. The gpsOne solution is integrated onto the
QUALCOMM MSM CDMA series of chipsets, thereby minimizing incremental costs and ensuring that there is little change to a cell phone's size,
weight or battery life. QUALCOMM's gpsOne-enabled MSM solutions are also planned for a wide variety of wireless air interfaces, including
CDMA, CDMA2000 1X, GSM and WCDMA.
Headquartered in Campbell, California, SnapTrack pioneered Wireless Assisted GPS(TM) and owns patents that are fundamental to the
cost-effective deployment of Wireless Assisted GPS-based location systems. SnapTrack's Hybrid Wireless Assisted GPS system enhances
QUALCOMM's gpsOne location solution and MSM position-enabled chipsets offer anytime, anywhere, accurate, high-speed location of a wireless
caller, even inside buildings where conventional GPS does not operate. The Company's Wireless Assisted GPS products include the SnapSmart
location server software system, the SnapCore(TM) multimode GPS solution and the SnapWARN(TM) GPS reference data feed service. For
