Insignia Begins Search For World's Smartest Java Developers With JPDA 2002 Application Developers Contest

Launches Worldwide Cash and Prize Giveaway Competition for JPDA Developers
FREMONT, Calif., Jul 23, 2002 - Insignia (Nasdaq:INSG) today began a search for the world's finest JPDA application
developer in a global competition to promote the creation and public availability of Java(TM) applets and applications designed for use in
high-performance Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs).
Software developers from business, academia and just with individual interest will be challenged to compete to develop the most innovative and
industry applicable applications for the handheld and enterprise markets. Along with Insignia, the JPDA 2002 Application Developers Contest is
sponsored by HP, Intel, Metrowerks, Sharp, Softbank Publishing and Sun Microsystems.
The JPDA 2002 Application Developers Contest starts on July 23, 2002. Final entries must be submitted by September 10, 2002 for the Japanese
applications category, and by October 31, 2002 for all English language-based categories. Winners in the Japanese category will be announced at
the JavaOne Developers Conference, Japan, from September 25 through September 27, 2002. The grand prize winner and winners of the other
categories will be announced at Comdex Fall 2002 in Las Vegas from November 18 through November 22, 2002.

Metrowerks, a longtime Insignia partner, will offer a special discount on its CodeWarrior Wireless Studio tools to all contest participants.
Metrowerks' CodeWarrior toolset was the first to support PersonalJava. It provides everything developers need to create compelling applications
that run on a Jeode-based PDA, an HP iPAQ, or a Sharp Zaurus, including Sun's PersonalJava(TM) Emulation Environment and RAD tools to
visually create user interfaces based on AWT components.
"Java technology on PDAs presents developers with a great opportunity to create compelling applications that run across leading platforms like HP
and Sharp PDAs. This contest should be very attractive to developers who are interested in Java on mobile devices, as it gives them a chance to

Developers may submit their Java applets and applications for consideration. The contest is open to all developers in eligible countries throughout
the world. The grand prize winner will receive $10,000 cash plus the prize for first place in the appropriate category. First, second and third place
finishers will receive prizes in each category including computer and home entertainment equipment. Softbank Publishing is sponsoring the Japanese
category. Prizes for this category will be announced at a later date. Also, prize winners in each category may have the opportunity to work with the
contest sponsors to further promote the winning applications to additional customers and channels.
JPDA 2002 Application Developers Contest categories are:
Games Entertainment/Educational/Multimedia Office/Business Enterprise productivity Communication/Internet Utilities/System tools Japanese applications category
Judging criteria will be based on functionality, ease of use, performance/efficiency, and originality.
