Pixo Develops Add-On Modules to Rapidly Distribute J2ME™ Applications
SAN JOSE, Calif., July 24, 2002 — Pixo Inc. (www.pixo.com), a leading provider of wireless
provisioning software systems, today announced that it is developing an add-on module to support
Sun™ ONE Studio 4, Mobile Edition. The module is an application packaging tool that will integrate with
Sun ONE Studio. It will allow J2ME™ developers to easily submit and distribute their applications and
content to operators and their mobile subscribers worldwide.
The Pixo Mobile Download Server (PMDS) is a high performance solution that allows operators to
manage the complexity of delivering wireless Java applications over the air (OTA) to their subscribers.
PMDS enables operators to quickly enter the market with a wireless Java download service that works
with the latest Java technology-enabled mobile phones.
Sun ONE Studio 4 provides a sophisticated, intuitive development environment for building and testing
applications for mobile devices. It is optimized for MIDP/CLDC development and includes many wizards
and templates that streamline and speed development of Java™ 2 Platform Micro Edition (J2ME™)
applications to run on the latest Java technology-enabled mobile phones.
"Utilizing Sun ONE Studio, developers can quickly and more easily develop and test wireless Java
applications for distribution to millions of Java technology-enabled devices," commented Mark
Grandcolas, vice president of strategic alliances at Pixo. "This robust software suite is a proven market
leader in developing J2ME applications. Once a developer has finished building J2ME applications, they
can use the Pixo add-on module to rapidly submit and distribute their applications."
The Pixo Wireless Java Alliance Program offers top applications for Java technology-enabled devices to
be made available to wireless operators directly through ongoing system trials as well as promotional
events. This program, complementary to the Pixo add-on module and PMDS, provides a complete
offering to operators, eliminates the need to search for compelling applications, and simplifies trials and
deployment, thereby driving usage and revenue.
"J2ME applications are becoming an increasing focus among developers. Sun ONE Studio 4, Mobile
Edition provides developers with the most powerful set of online tools possible so they can quickly
become productive," said Arthur Gould, senior manager, strategic relations, Sun Microsystems. "Pixo's
products and services supports the efforts of Java developers to deliver compelling applications available
to potentially millions of mobile devices."
PMDS manages the complete application download lifecycle, including developer application
submission, matching applications to appropriate devices, notifying subscribers of new applications and
upgrades, handling application downloads and tracking download information for billing purposes.
The Pixo Mobile Download Server is built upon the Java™ 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE™)
framework and industry-leading software and hardware from Sun Microsystems, BEA, Hewlett-Packard
and Oracle for carrier-grade scalability and robustness. Pixo believes that the high performance of Pixo
MDS is unmatched in the industry today.
