Wireless Information Revolution for Mass Transit Driven By Four J's Development Tools

DALLAS, Aug 05, 2002 - Four J's Development Tools (Dallas, TX), a leading provider of development tools and deployment infrastructure for traditional, e-commerce and wireless business applications, announced the introduction of a wireless information transportation system, CENTURION, developed by Infocell Telecom (Dublin) using Four J's Business Development Suite (BDS).

Using Four J's BDS Infocell built an integrated public transportation system which provides on-street Internet access and accurate up-to-the-minute information on bus times and services available to commuters via electronic screens at bus stops and on the bus, as well as on individual company intranets, mobile phones and PDA's.

With the CENTURION Wireless Information Transportation System, commuters can check the bus schedule to see exactly when the bus will arrive at their stop. This is not only a time saver to commuters, as it practically eliminates time spent waiting, but is a value add to the mobile phone and mobile device providers -- offering them a competitive edge. This will eliminate frustration and provide the commuter with peace of mind knowing they have more time to get to the stop, or need to move a little faster so they do not miss the bus.

The General Package Radio Services (GPRS) provides easy-to-navigate text, audio and visual screens to deliver interactive information including times, services and routes. Other enhanced services range from weather reports, sports updates and targeted, location-based advertisements generating an immediate return on investment. Location based advertising will enable merchants to target potential customers while they are in the direct vicinity of their business, generating a faster return on investment.

The system also provides location based information to help commuters find restaurants, shops and other things they may be looking for but are not sure exactly where to find them, and what stop they need to get off at to get there. Having information that is based on location and times, will allow commuters to better plan their day by receiving real-time information such as movie times, when restaurants and businesses open/close, etc. This service allows commuters to save time and energy by getting around more efficiently, eliminating the common frustrations associated with public transportation.

With a more efficient public transportation system more people will come to depend on the bus, and less cars on the road means less congestion and pollution. Having and efficient public transportation system allows for a cleaner and better environment for everyone.

The key to the success of the wireless information transport is its ability to reliably gather, collate and disseminate real-time data to a variety of devices -- this is achieved through the capabilities and power of the Four J's BDS. Four J's was selected by Infocell Telecom as the development tool set to help construct the CENTURION Wireless Information Transport based on its rapid development features, flexibility and its ability to support multiple devices.
