BT Works with dynamicsoft to Deploy Windows XP Messenger PC-to-Phone Services
Dynamicsoft AppEngine Selected as the Deployment Platform for BT's Newest Voice
Over IP Telephony Service
EAST HANOVER, N.J., Aug 16, 2002 -- BT Ignite (BT GROUP PLC)(NYSE: BTY), BT's business services
and solutions division and dynamicsoft Inc., the leading provider of SIP solutions for communications networks, today announced that BT
will deploy the dynamicsoft AppEngine(TM) in PC 2 UK, its first Internet telephony service to use MSN Messenger.
PC 2 UK is the latest addition to BT's Voice over IP (VoIP) portfolio, an innovative, mass-market Internet telephony service that
integrates voice communications with the MSN Messenger instant messaging service. This allows customers to use their PC as a 'phone'
to connect to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) while being online and make calls, without the need for a second phone
line.
Developed by BTexact, BT's advanced research and technology business, this is the first VoIP service from BT to use Session Initiation
Protocol (SIP) and is based on Microsoft's .Net Web services platform. The service enables MSN Messenger users, of whom there are
approximately 3.6 million in the UK, to make an unlimited number of local and national voice calls from their PC over the Internet while
online for a fixed monthly payment.
"BT is one of the leading VoIP providers in Europe, delivering innovative, high quality and reliable services to customers. We required a
carrier-grade SIP-based solution capable of meeting our needs to terminate MSN Messenger calling services," said John Blake, head of
VoIP at BT Ignite. "dynamicsoft was a natural choice because of their leadership in worldwide SIP network deployments and their
comprehensive product and solution portfolio."
"We are extremely pleased to be selected as the vendor of choice for the SIP component of BT's PC 2 UK service. Because BTexact
chose our AppEngine as a development/deployment platform, they were able to immediately enter the growing market for PC-to-phone
services that MSN Messenger is creating," said Dana Stetson, vice president of sales at dynamicsoft.
The award-winning dynamicsoft AppEngine is the leading development platform for developing, deploying and managing converged
communications services - integrating voice, video, Web, presence, instant messaging and email capabilities - based on SIP, the dominant
standard for real-time communications. Quick time-to-market, reduced development costs, Web/voice services integration, simplified
application deployment and operation are just some of the benefits enjoyed by AppEngine customers. In addition to enabling Microsoft
Messenger termination, the dynamicsoft AppEngine is used to deploy other carrier-grade services, including prepaid calling, conferencing,
unified messaging, IP Centrex and many more next-generation services.
Clive Dellard, multimedia solutions designer at BTexact Technologies said: "Part of our role for BT Group is to ensure that its lines of
business can develop and deploy new and cutting edge technologies faster. By combining our technology with dynamicsoft's, we were
able to deliver PC 2 UK quickly and gain an edge for this kind of service in the UK market."
