Summus & ZIO Tee-Up 'Ultimate Golf Challenge' Mobile Gaming Application

Wireless Game Now Available to BREW Carriers

RALEIGH, N.C., Aug 20, 2002 - Summus, Inc. (USA) (OTC Bulletin Board: SUMU), a leader in the development of efficient information processing solutions for mobile and wireless devices, and ZIO Interactive, one of the leaders in mobile gaming, today announced that ZIO Interactive's Ultimate Golf Challenge(TM) developed for QUALCOMM's Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless(TM) (BREW(TM)) platform has received the TRUE BREW(TM) designation from the National Software Testing Laboratories (NSTL). The game is now available to wireless carriers who support QUALCOMM's BREW solution.

ZIO's Ultimate Golf Challenge is powered by Summus' BlueFuel(TM) architecture and distributed in North America by Summus. A long-time provider of games for Palm(TM) and Pocket PC(TM), ZIO Interactive selected BlueFuel, Summus' powerful information processing platform, to ensure that consumers playing ZIO games on BREW-enabled mobile phones have an exceptional user experience. The BlueFuel platform and architecture enables developers to build applications that provide the desired experience in "mobile resource constrained" environments.

"Ultimate Golf Challenge, powered by BlueFuel, has been very well received in testing by end-users and carriers alike," said Dr. Bjorn Jawerth, CEO of Summus. "Many end-users in our test process noted that it is the best golf game they have played on a wireless phone. We attribute the great playing experience, to the exceptional ZIO development team, as well as the performance enhancements provided by BlueFuel. I am excited about making another game in the ZIO suite available to wireless subscribers."

"We know that our users love our golf games on PDAs. With Ultimate Golf Challenge, we expect to realize the same success by bringing this same quality gaming experience to wireless phones," said Peter Kim, president and CEO of ZIO Interactive. "Powering our games with the BlueFuel architecture enables us to deliver a better gaming experience to our users."

Ultimate Golf Challenge brings to wireless phones the challenges of skill and strategic decision-making users face on a real golf course. Users must consider the position of trees and sand traps, the slope of the green and even wind conditions. Success also depends on the user selecting the correct club, determining how hard to hit the ball, as well as choosing to add a fade or a draw. The game's features add up to a great playing experience that is not only fun and easy-to-learn, but also a challenge to master.

The research firm ARC Group predicts that mobile gaming services are expected to skyrocket within the next five years, growing at a rate of over 100 percent per year. By 2006, almost half of all wireless phone users will be playing mobile games. Summus and ZIO will participate in this growth by releasing a series of colorful, fast-paced games for a variety of platforms. Wireless games, including ZIO's Ultimate Golf Challenge and Nineball, will be available initially to consumers with BREW-enabled devices and for additional application services, such as J2ME, in the near future.

About ZIO Interactive

The BREW Solution

QUALCOMM's BREW platform is a thin application execution environment that provides an open, standard platform for wireless devices. The BREW platform is part of a complete, end-to-end solution for wireless applications development, device configuration, application distribution, and billing and payment. The complete BREW solution includes the BREW SDK(TM) (software development kit) for developers, the BREW applications platform and porting tools for device manufacturers, and the BREW Distribution System (BDS) that is controlled and managed by carriers -- enabling them to easily get applications from developers to market and coordinate the billing and payment process. Carriers' BREW-based services will enable consumers to customize their handsets by downloading applications over the air from a carrier's application download server. The BREW platform is a product of QUALCOMM Internet Services division within the QUALCOMM Wireless & Internet group of QUALCOMM Incorporated.
