Ekahau enables location-based services in a shopping mall environment

Elisa Mobilemall - Pioneering Wireless Service Trial in Helsinki
Helsinki, Finland, 3 September 2002 - Elisa Communications Corporation today announced the launch of the Wireless Mobilemall service solution in the Arabia shopping mall, Helsinki, Finland. By employing the latest wireless mobile technology and innovations, the new solution provides wireless Internet services to both customers and retailers.
Arabia shopping mall´s location-based services provide navigation and information on Arabia stores and their products and promotions. Users are now able to accurately locate themselves within the Arabia shopping center via PDA devices. Location based information services, such as business hours, contact information and special promotions can be seen on their PDA device screens. Wireless PDAs are available for trial from one of the local stores in the shopping mall. The partner in the creation and implementation of the location-based services is Ekahau, Inc.
The offered services include also WLAN and Bluetooth -based wireless Internet connection from computers and PDAs. Services are provided free of charge. However, the service requires registration at http://mobilemall.elisa.fi . Presentation of Arabia stores and services, and information services within the Mobilemall network coverage are available from the shopping mall's information desk or the Internet at www.kauppakeskusarabia.fi . The wireless Mobilemall services are available until 30 November 2002. New services will be launched during this fall and they will be announced later. The project is part of the Innovations R&D program of Elisa Communications Corporation.
