Fastrax to Expand iTrax02 Product Family of GPS Receivers
More Choices For Innovative Positioning Device Manufactures Searching For
Versatile Programmability And Cost-efficient Performance
Helsinki, Finland - September 3, 2002 - Fastrax Ltd., a developer of
industry-leading products for optimal utilization of the Global Navigation
Satellite Systems (GNSS), today announced a new and immediately available,
expanded product family of iTrax02 Series GPS receiver modules. Offering key
benefits in performance, size, power consumption and versatility, the
iTrax02 Series modules are ideally suited for both industrial tracking
systems and battery-operated consumer products like mobile phones, asset
tracking devices, handheld computers and sports accessories.
Ultra-low, user configurable power consumption makes iTrax02 Series the
lowest power consuming, complete 12-channel GPS receivers on the market.
Nevertheless, while developing its products, Fastrax has not accepted any
compromises in performance. Both two iTrax02 Series receiver models, the new
iTrax02/4 and current iTrax02/8 (formerly known as iTrax02) have a
navigation sensitivity as low as -150 dBm making them applicable even for
extremely demanding applications and environments.
"In many end-user device development projects the product manufacturers
regard reduced component costs and small form factor as crucial parameters.
Due to our cutting-edge technology architecture in iTrax02 Series receivers
we are able to provide them with these", says Kim Kaisti, VP, Business
Development of Fastrax Ltd. "With the expansion of iTrax02 product family we
want to support our existing and new customers by offering them more choices
both in needs for versatile programmability and cost-efficiency."
Fastrax's current GPS receiver model, iTrax 02/8, features 8 Mbit Flash
memory allowing versatile programmability with the iSuiteSDK (Software
Development Kit). Application costs are reduced significantly when no
external processor is needed and the iTrax02 is used as a microprocessor.
With fewer components, also size and manufacturing costs of off-the-shelf
product are reduced.
In solutions where the industry standard NMEA0183 protocol is sufficient and
programmability is unnecessary, the new iTrax02/4 module with 4 Mbit Flash
memory is a cost-efficient and high performance alternative. Just like the
current model, iTrax02/4 GPS receiver provides application with data of its
position, velocity, direction and the time with extreme accuracy and
reliability, even in demanding conditions.
All navigational data in both modules is stored in Flash memory with simple
commands and thus no back-up battery is required. The addition of an antenna
and power supply is all that is needed to make the iTRAX02 Series modules
operational.
Other key features of both iTrax02 GPS receivers are:
Tiny PCB form factor - 26mm x 26mm x 4.7mm (including RF shield and system
connector)
Ultra-low power consumption - 130mW @ 2.7V in continuous operation
Very Fast TTFF
Sensitivity -150dBm (Tracking)
iTALK and NMEA0183 protocols
Versatile interface ports
Accurate 1PPS timing output
iTrax02 Series of Fastrax GPS receivers are globally available via a network
of qualified Fastrax distributors. For more information on distributors,
