Boost Mobile Selects Motorola as Exclusive Provider of Wireless Phones
Boost Mobile
Offers Feature-Packed Motorola Mobile Phones to Meet the Needs of Youth Market
IRVINE, Ca. & PLANTATION, Fla., Sep 4, 2002 - Boost Mobile LLC, a lifestyle based telecommunications
company focused on the youth market, announced it has selected Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) as the exclusive manufacturer of innovative,
affordable and feature-packed mobile phones for the youth market.
The wireless phones will operate with "pay as you go" functionality on the Nextel National 2.5G Packet Data Network using Motorola's
iDEN(R) handsets for Boost Mobile's test market launch in California and Nevada.
"We're excited to be working with Motorola to bring Boost Mobile and its unique lifestyle branding to the U.S. market," said Peter Adderton,
a founder and member of the Board of Directors of Boost Mobile, LLC. "By combining Boost Mobile's marketing and design expertise with
Motorola's history in creating stylish, reliable and feature-packed mobile phones -- supported by Nextel's world class network -- we've
created a winning combination that will successfully give active youth the wireless services and products they want."
"As Boost Mobile's exclusive handset provider, Motorola is able to provide the highly mobile U.S. youth market with the products they need
and demand," said Peter Aloumanis, vice president and general manager of the U.S. Markets Division, Motorola's iDEN Subscriber Group.
"These include stylish, colorful, and highly functional phones with compelling applications and mobile games."
"These Motorola handsets are a natural fit for the Boost Mobile brand, since the built-in long-range digital walkie-talkie, Boost 2Way(TM), is
like instant messaging for voice," said Tom Kelly, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Nextel Communications, Inc.
(NASDAQ:NXTL). "This, plus the rich data features Motorola provides on its iDEN phones, gives on-the-go youth the unique ability to
instantly communicate with family or friends at the touch of a button."
Boost Mobile plans to launch six Motorola handsets as part of the initial product portfolio, including the Motorola i95cl, the i50sx, the i60c,
and three versions of the i55sr. All models will have traditional mobile phone capabilities and the Boost 2Way(TM) digital walkie-talkie
feature.
Many of the phones are Java(TM) technology-enabled, so users can download new games and other applications to meet their individual
needs. Other features include 'always on' Internet access, built-in speakerphone, 250-entry phonebook, voice mail, and two-way text
messaging.
The Boost Mobile handsets manufactured by Motorola will feature new colors and rugged styles and will come pre-loaded with popular
games, including Tetris and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Mobile Madness. The flagship model, the Motorola i95cl, features a large
color screen, pre-loaded ring tones, and the games Astrosmash, Snood and MotoGP from THQ.
